Chicken pox! my 3 year old DS is covered in them!

My children have both just had chicken pox and this sounds completely different. Spots started on stomach and back which I was told is classic for chicken pox.
I would seek medical advice.0 -
DS2 has them atm - rash started on his back then his neck. Spots will be kind of tear shaped and after about 3 days turn into blisters which scab over.
I would get him checked by the doctor."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
thanks, waiting for a doctor's appointment but he is fine now - spots all gone! i looked on the net and all i could find starting on the arms and legs was meningitis or hives. he didn't seem ill enough to call an emergency doc out because his symptoms started to get better after some medised (for the antihistamine) but i was all set to call one if the medised hadn't worked so fast. i remembered my other son getting the same thing at the same age, he's got some hayfever allergies.
shortly after the medised the scarlet colour went away and the swelling went down, leaving him looking as if he'd crawled in a patch of nettles and then those nettle stings went away too.
nhs direct said it was okay to treat at home but to call back straight away if he swelled up again or had breathing problems.'bad mothers club' member 13

Hiya
Regular Paracetamol and Ibuprofen
Piriton (this sometimes had a drowsy effect which may be very useful).
I really wouldn't reccomend calamone lotion - Recent reseach shows this just dries the skin out and causes the skin to be even itchier.
Lots of fluids.

Just to give you another opinion - NHS direct suggest using calamine lotion

Reviving this thread, my DS2 age 6 came down with chickenpox on Thursday, DS3 is 5 months old, how long will it take for his spots to come out should he have caught it does anyone know?
I've not had it either (!) but didn't catch it off DS1 8 years ago, so hoping immunity must be good.......0 -
my daughter 7yrs has just had them she was pickled too and not well found giving her calpol and ibprofen and one daily clarityn syrup worked . She had tepid baths and I used calamine and aqueous cream its brilliant about £1 a pot and works even better straight out the bath while still wet as it glides over the skin and sooths before the itching starts again , if it did I just dabed more on over the top of the spot. I also bought some cotton gloves as being a girl I was worried about scaring her face . she never scratched and was brilliant but still has a few scars where the big spots were I did also use savlon cream on them as a few looked a little angry and that seemed to help too.
Hope he feels better soon I think this is one of the dirtiest childhood illness going ps I've never had chicken pox and was worried dr said 21 day incubation period.
also if you have had shingles then you've had cpox. but chicken pox can give you shingles . Luckly I got away with it .If you like what I wrote

My 5 year old has just recently had a very bad dose of the chicken pox ( literally hundreds EVERYWHERE ). Agree with the above posts, calpol and ibproprufen two hours apart. The calamine lotion made her worse with the itching, calamine and aqueous cream was recommended off my cousin and that worked a liitle bit better. Also, piratyn ( spelt wrong ) took the edge off the itching.
I thought my 2 year old had been lucky and managed not to catch them, but two and a half weeks later her spots appeared...
Fortunately though, she was quite spotty, but wasn't in any pain and didn't really itch except her scalp.
It just depends on the child how mild or bad it is.0 -

My son came down on last Thursday, and the school don't want him back until after the half term holiday. I think their actual policy was 5 days after the last spot had appeared AND no liquid filled ones left.0
