I've put tea tree oil in the bath along with bicarbonate of soda for kids with chickenpox. I also put some neat tea tree drops in some very mild baby shampoo and let it sit on their scalp before washing it off. I've also found they may react better to the bath if it happens first thing in the morning - I assume it relieves the itchiness?
Hope your little one is better soon. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

My 5 year old is covered and its not a pretty sight! The Dr recommended Piriton which seems to be working well. Can use it after age 1, and it says for chicken pox rash on the bottle. Check with your dr/pharmasist.
When I reported my DD off school the secretary said her kids had it at Christmas and she used Aloe Vera after sun gel from the chemist and it worked wonders. I got some and have put it on DD's tummy and back. I wouldn't put it anywhere 'sensitive'. Not sure if its actually helping but she thinks it is! Will also come in for summer!0 -
I don't really have any advice to add, but just wanted to say even though it's horrible, it's better for them to have it at this age.
I got chickenpox at 24, a month before my wedding  , and it was a complete nightmare (second most awful thing after childbirth, LOL! ). I really believe it's the lesser of two evils to have it as a child.
Don't worry about him not eating, and the (very expensive, LOL!) juice seems like a brilliant idea. Hope he feels better soon.0 -
As above, piriton and calamine cream.
Watch yourself too, my DD had chicken pox for the 3 weeks before DS was one, on his 1st birthday he developed the chicken pox too.
Not content on having my sick house of children for a few more weeks, I caught them too. (already had them as a child) thus why they came out as shingles. I was in absolute agony, funny thing is, if I had shown my doctor the one tiny spot on my stomach in time she could have game me something to stop it coming out. Once it starts to show, it has to run its course, so if you notice any spots anywhere, get yourself of to the doctors, asap.
Back to the children though, my DD slept for 3 weeks (due to piriton I think) and never ate a thing, doctor said it was no cause for concern as children are stronger than we think. DS was hypo of piriton and never stopped eating!!
I was laid up in bed with the worst back pain ever, once the pain went I was left with the spots for a further 2 weeks, oh, and I got a few scars from DS knocking my face with his scrath mitts!!
So long as you make your DS comfortable and give him fluids, he will be fine.
I hope he feels better soon.:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.

I remember in the early 50's that mums would take their kids to peoples houses where known cases of Chicken Pox etc were on the go, just so that the young ones could catch it, and get it out of the way all at once. Does this still happen?;)0

Hi
I used Piriton with both of mine. Don't use calamine lotion as when it dries it can irritate the skin and make them scratch even more (HV's advice). However I think the aqueous cream with calamine in is okay because it doesn't lie on the skin.

chicken pox party! :rotfl:
piriton made my son go hyper but zirtec was okay. if you can get him into a bath you could make a cup of camomile tea and tip it into the bathwater - it really helps itching. we had some cream instead of calamine lotion, it contained calamine so was probably the stuff others have mentioned. definitely easier to put on.
he got them in his mouth etc. too and eating jelly seemed to help.'bad mothers club' member 13
