Morning all,
Well the company at our meal last night was excellent but I don't know when I last had such a poor meal out. Literally nothing was as it should have been and we had pre-ordered our meals. The service was appalling, a lot of the food wasn't right and for a table booked for 8.15 the last of us got our started about 8.55 and we hadn't had dessert at 10.45. What's more, I offered to go and negotiate the bill and someone else went and did it and did a bad job - I think she had the wool pulled over her eyes as once you'd taken the deposit off I think all the waiter did was take the service charge off (what a joke), rather than any actual discount. And because I'd been organised and paid the £30 for the original meal (booked in 2020 at a different restaurant) a long time ago, despite the discount, I didn't see any of my money back, and my meal at full price should only have been £26.50. I'm absolutely seething about it but I know I'm going to have to let it go. Another girl got them to give us two bottles of prosecco (but this counted against us at the final reckoning), but I didn't see the benefit of this either as I was driving.... Grrrrr! The poor service really spoilt the evening (hopefully not for the hen). I don't know whether to write to the company (an independent) or just leave an absolutely scathing review on tripadvisor.
Had a lovely day prior to that with Sis, Niece and Mum. Unless my uncle is coming up today to visit mum (he lives in Kent), I'm spending the day doing some work I need to catch up on from the last two weeks and then doing the housework that needs catching up on from the last two weeks. Expecting DH back early evening, having eaten a main meal at lunch, so not sure what I'll have for dinner, but it'll be simple.
MS things:
* Car parking was free, unexpectedly
* Clicks done (I've won a free bet on HW, so going to have to look at that later)
* PA longitudinal survey still going
Gratitudes:
* The sky is blue and I'll find time for a walk today
* Picked up two more books from the 'library' (MIL's collection)
* Heartened to hear that Orban is standing with the EU; also saw that Xi has distanced himself from Vlad the Mad (but couldn't find details)
Must crack on with work so I can enjoy the sunshine!

Ditto on your "public" gratitudes (Xi, blue sky
) and as far as the awful meal and service last night is concerned - I'd complain to the company. I'm doing well with complaints at the mo, so I'm feeling good about it, but YMMV, of course. It's just that I hear of companies getting very aggressive these days with people who leave bad reviews
Hope you get out there in the sun very soon!2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -
You're right Karma, but I can't see them doing much about it, given they think it was 'dealt with' last night. I'd rather get us some money back, but I don't think it'll happen.
I'll see... I need to get this work out of the way first and my computer crashed (hoping it's not related to the water incident) and I've lost an hour's work this morning..... I'm really looking forward to Tuesday - February has been a bit hit and miss!!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I think your meal problem was made worse by a lack of consideration by the people you were with of the non drinkers' circumstances and a carp negotiator. You sound as frustrated with them as the restaurant. I know getting staff is a right PIA for restaurants so as Karma suggests, I would complain to the restaurant rather than a stinging public review (others in your group might feel they did well?)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I too think if you are unhappy you should complain to the restaurant and hopefully, you can get some form of compensation, BUT only if you have the time and energy.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Morning all,
Thanks SL and BB - I'll have a think. Spent yesterday afternoon at the dentists as tooth is still giving me issues. They tried to remove it but the anaesthetic wasn't taking well enough (and I definitely need it! How did they pull teeth without it?!). Back again this afternoon for more fun and games and if it doesn't work then, then I'll have to be referred to a hospital for sedation... In the meantime, my mouth feels like it's been in the wars and I'm eating only soft foods! DH has come down with a cold (which I'm sure he'll pass onto me) and has therefore decided to WFH, so it's another cheerful day here!
I do have work to do and invoicing, so I'm getting on with that before I head to the dentist at 2.30 (yes, I was given the option of two times and this one appealed most!).
MS things:
* Clicks done
* Have finished PA longitudinal survey and done a couple of other quick ones this morning - earnings this month £21.20 + £5 pending + longitudinal payment. Pleased with that.
* Dinner was prawn risotto - suitably soft! Tonight's may well be daal or similar cooked in the IP too, for ease.
* Less moneysaving was the fact that the dishwasher and wm were both ready to go on last night and they didn't get put on - it was our last day on our electricity fix! So I'm running up the bill already this morning.
Gratitudes:
* Dentist and nurse were lovely (but I'm really not looking forward to more of the same later)
* ex-Brownie friends adjusted plans yesterday afternoon so we could still meet around dental appointment
* Pain (rather than soreness) isn't as bad as I expected
Have a good day all!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ugh. My old dentist did everything possible to save my teeth before we eventually had to put me up for an extraction under sedation. I also have a recurring abscess that he referred me to a specialist (private) dentist to have it root canal filled under special surgical conditions - that was about four years ago, just before he retired. £500 later and no recurrence of the abscess. My roots are apparently unusual and have more branches than normal so quite difficult. I really empathise having had plenty of treatments over the years. Thanks SL. No saving has really been necessary here as it's a wisdom tooth, for which I'm grateful. Your teeth sound like they've given you quite a bit of pain over the years, but £500 sounds very reasonable for sorting a recurring issue. I've had a few fillings previously, but nothing else, so this has come as a bit of a shock. My mouth is really small though, which doesn't help - there's hardly any room for the dentist and I'm virtually impossible to x-ray - they've managed it twice in the last week, but usually don't both routinely - I just gag!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

All the dental stuff (and OH's cold!) is sounding horrible
I sympathise with the impossible to x-ray bit - I have that in spades, never thought about it being connected to the internal size of my mouth, I must say. But you have more today? Very best of luck.

Thanks Karma. More today, yes, but really, really hoping it works today and that's it. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely at the moment.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
