Just back from Thailand, flew Emirates there and back with the stop over at Dubai. Excellent, cannot fault them.
We had vegetarian option food coming back and we were served first.
Dubai duty free is everything people have said. One tip if you have hand baggage and some duty free use one of the little trolleys at duty free go up to the departure gate in the lift and you can keep the trolley until you go to the gates. Saves carrying around!0 -
Flew to Oz with Emirates in 2004 and rated them as Excellent! At that time, however, not all their planes had the 100 channel entertainment system.
What we really liked was the fact that the Dubai stopover meant each sector was 7-8 hours. Better, we thought, than the long-haul 11-12 hour times.
As posted, the Dubai duty free shop is awesome!0 -

Agreed, far better, especially if time is not an important factor in your journey, it gives you a chance to get off the plane and really stretch your legs, plus the two hundred pound saving the OP is making gives you more to spend on your holiday or in the duty free.0 -
BTW Standard B777 seating is 3-3-3 across in economy, on emirates it is 3-4-3

We flew with Emirates with 2 children to NZ- they were great.
Dubai Airport is nice-but they like you to spend your money and not sit down!! Very little in way of seating and lots of bodies-sleeping passangers on floor!
I would travel with them again but pay the £20 or so for the lounge pass. Unless you are a shopper.April Grocery challange £175
Spent week 1 £29.90
week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.540 -
Thank you all so so much for your replies - I honestly cannot believe how much cheaper Emirates are compared to all the other airlines. As background, I'm going to China to work with pandas for 2 weeks, which has been my dream for years, so the journey there is as much an adventure as the trip itself! I'm not a shopper, I'm spending time in Beijing and Shanghai both before and after "pandatrip" so want to save my money for that, so thanks swizzle for your posting, from speaking to people at work today Emirates have the most fantastic service and reputation, so I'm going to book the flights tomorrow!!!!!0

We've got an 8h stop over with Emirates in Dubai - whats the lowdown on the lounge pass? We've also got 2 children - 13 and 16.
Thanks,0 -
Are you sure that it is eight hours?
If so, it is usual for the airline to provide hotel accommodation for transit times of eight hours or more.0 -
Not sure about hotel rooms, but Emirates do have a restaurant there that will give you a free meal if your stopover is over 4 hours and your flying with them.0
