I've never understood the logic in having shelves so high you have to stand on something to replenish as cutomers can't reach the products anyway, usually though chillers arent that high.

Hi zaksmum, it's Iceland Head Office here. We're really concerned about your comments and would like to investigate further. We gather from subsequent posts that the store you are talking about is somewhere in the Merseyside area, so we have passed the information on to relevant Regional Manager. He will now talk to all of his Area Managers who in turn will speak to all Store Managers. However, if you would like us to do a specific investigation we would need to know which store you visited. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Hi, thanks for your response. I'll just say the store is on a main road in the north of the city close to Liverpool city centre, don't want to say on here which one.

I was in there again today and staff are still routinely standing on the chilled food shelves to restock higher shelves. Their shoes touch the food packets and I've seen staff move packets along the shelves with their feet. Today the manager was chatting to a female staff member while she was standing on the food packets on a chiller shelf.

It really is very unhygienic and I'd appreciate your intervention to put an end to it if possible.

    Thanks.

Hi again. I will personally speak to the Area Manager about this issue. Please rest assured that he will carry out a full and thorough investigation. If need be swift action will be taken to make sure that this does not happen again in the future. Thanks again for your feedback.

However well intentioned your post is as a company representative you need MSE permission to post on these forums.

Yeah, because sticking to the letter of the forum rules is so much more important than getting a potentially damaging practice sorted out by a retailer who is obviously prepared to help.

Than goodness some jumped up little busy body thought to alert the mods. I'm sure they can feel really proud of a job well done. rolleyes.gif

Do any of you wash your hands when you come in from shopping, ever think about who has touched the food/bags/tins packets/trolley handles....fancy a crisp on the way home ? .............I bet if I put up a poll fewer that 20% wash their hands when they come home.........

I do. I wash my hands as soon as I come through my front door. I've got a thing about bringing other peoples' germs into my home.

    What s/he said. :T

What is it with people not seeing the big picture; let's sue the homeowner for 'providing' the broken ladder the thief used to break in, conveniently forgetting what was happening in the first place?

In my local Iceland store, the staff stand on shelves displaying chilled food to restock higher shelves.

They come in from the street in outdoor shoes and actually move packets of bacon, cooked meats etc. aside with their feet while standing amidst them.

Surely the manager shouldn't allow this? I wouldn't fancy finding traces of dog poo or something on the packets of the food I buy there!

have you been back since and are they still doing it

Yes I do and I wash them before I go out too and walk around with a bottle of antibacterial gel in between! :D
