Unhygienic practice?

In my local Iceland store, the staff stand on shelves displaying chilled food to restock higher shelves.

They come in from the street in outdoor shoes and actually move packets of bacon, cooked meats etc. aside with their feet while standing amidst them.

Surely the manager shouldn't allow this? I wouldn't fancy finding traces of dog poo or something on the packets of the food I buy there!

Probably caused by poor management in not supplying the correct equipment to reach. I would write to their head office. Which store is it?

    It's a store on Merseyside.

Staff do have steps to use but just don't bother. Quite off putting to see a pair of feet with outdoor shoes standing all over the food packets.

A copy of this sent to senior management (or posted on Facebook or somewhere similar) would probably have far more of an effect than sending a simple letter.

Why not just go the easy route and speak to the manager.

I can imagine a newspaper having fun with that too - but also try the local council public health department - they may have words with the manager...

MMmmmm and whilst we're at it, I think we should be taking photos of all the little darlins whose parents let them stand in supermarket trolleys. Again, what might they have stood in? Then you put your fresh-baked loaf of bread on top......

Not just unhygienic but potentially dangerous too. I know the shelves are meant to bear a lot of weight, but packaged foods the weight is spread over the whole shelf, whereas 10st+ of human is all on the area of their feet, so it's different. And shelves tend to be shiny surfaces so the staff risk slipping.

You should tell the manager what's happening. If steps are provided the staff need to be retrained to use them.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

The idiotic managers cant see that if the staff fall, they are wide open to litigation.
