That means the phone is hardlocked the only way to unlock it is to take it to a pro unlocker or car boot where they will unlock it with cable and hardware for around £5

I need an unlock code for my phone and am now getting worried that I will screw it up (2 strikes so far)

Put a non orange sim card in the phone and enter this code without spaces

That means you have entered the wrong code to many times, the only way to unlock it is to take to a unlocking shop who will use cable and hardware and should charge around £5 to do it. The 6230i are one of a few phones where you have to enter the code with a different sim in it or it will display the message you got.
