What will you do when your debts are gone?

It's like talking about what you'll do when the war is over. It's one of the things that keeps my husband and I going...what we will do when the debts are all paid. I know it'll be ten years yet, but that gives me ten years to decide what I really want to do with my money.

First: We'd like to pay about six months worth of our excess income in donations to the CCCS. Not exactly a money saving thing to do, but I just can't help thinking that we've been really lucky. The CCCS have helped us and I want to make sure that experts will still be there in future to help others with the fear, uncertainty and shame of chronic debt.

Second: I want a nest-egg! I'd actually like shares in something. Interest that goes into my account instead of out of it for once!

Third: A dirty great big all-expenses-affordable holiday! Ice creams and dinner out and souvenirs and gifts for my friends and family.

Then I just want some peace and quiet, some time to enjoy not worrying about money. I can't wait for that day! x

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Get married

    buy a house

get put on OH insurance so i can use the car

Take the kids on holiday to somewhere further than the local beach

get my hair cut and dyed by a proper hairdresser

buy just one item that isnt in the sale, reduced, near the sell by date or damaged in some way

    *in any particualr order*
  • I'm going to dance around the room to SexyBack by Justin Timberlake, doing all the dance moves and facial expressions (which will be out of date by then, but I won't care).

After a couple of days of doing that I'll probably be bored so I'll go and open a savings account just for the hell of it.

On a more serious note, I want to go back to university to do an MA and then ultimately a PhD, and retrain to become a HE lecturer. It costs £000s so I can't do it right now, even with help.

I also want to take the time to write novels.

And then, hopefully move to Vancouver, BC to enjoy life in a different country for a while.

Thinking about all that, makes it all worthwhile.

    Hurrah.

Go mental with my credit cards.

  • After the debts are all gone, for one year we'll put the money we were paying towards them each month into a savings account, then we're off round the world! Hurrah!

 Please don't go mental on the credit cards - you'll end up back here again!

    Once my debts are gone...

    Save for a house deposit
    Start a pension!

Which is all very sensible but dull... but one thing i really want to do...

By an enormous round of drinks for all my friends that have been there through my DFW journey (and none for those who can't be bothered to see me now I can't afford big nights out)

What a lovely thread - and a great motivator for us all!!

Once our debts are gone we are saving up for a trip to Australia, my friend and her husband moved there a couple of years ago, and have since had their first child, so I'd love to go and visit them.

Then I'd just like to be able to open the post and pay a bill straight away, rather than in dribs and drabs. Also I'd like to be able to have spare cash !

OH would like to save up for his masters.

Sorry, I forgot one. I'm also going to burn the granny coat that I am forced to wear because it is warm, it fits and I could afford it. I hate that coat. I'm 25 and I wear felt for crying out loud!
