I have to say we have had to opposite experience with Accord Mortgages. We just got our Formal Mortgage offer through in less then 3 weeks.
But yours seemed to be a strait forward mortgage. If it is anything out of the norm they are a pain to deal with.

Its a very stressful time at the moment....
We signed up with Accord last July even before the free valuation's were in place and it still took weeks before we received our mortgage offer. Unfortunately the chain fell through in October but we now have a new chain set up and everyone is waiting to exchange, BUT it is our mortgage valuation/offer that is holding proceedings up.

Accord already had all of our details from our initial application so all we needed to do was sign new paperwork on 22nd March to get the valuation done on the new property. We were chasing up daily and were told that because of the delays it wouldn't be done for 4 or 5 days. Then on the 4th April we get a call to say that our initial mortgage offer had ran out so we need to start the application process again and supply latest copies of payslips & bank accounts again, which we sent off in a flash. However, they failed to tell us this on the 22nd March!!!!!! It is now 13 April and after chasing daily we are still none the wiser.....

But do they deal with straightforward cases, in those cases wouldn't people be going straight to high street lenders?

The abysmal follow-on rate, SVR puts me off recommending Accord, to be honest.

I always discuss changing circumstances with my clients and being unable to remortgage at the end of their initial offer.

I can get a follow-on of 3.99% with the likes of Halifax and Nationwide. Accord's is 5.99%. There's not much you can give me in the first couple of years to make up for that.

  • This thread has very much shaken my confidence in accord i'm two weeks into my application with them, and all i have been told is that they are just underwriting it at the moment and should have a survey booked in soon but it will take longer then normal as i have requested a more in depth survey so can often take longer to get it booked in.

Does this sound right as i can't under stand why it would take longer to get a more detailed survey booked in compared to a less detailed survey.

I would much appreciate any insight into this as i'm a first time buyer and struggling to get my head around the amount of time things are ment to take as my mortgage adviser is not very forthcoming with how long thinks are ment to take.

All I can say is AVOID this company. Accord mortgages wasted 2-3 months of my time, house nearly fell through.
Gut instincts told me to apply for another mortgage, which I did as backup (with Post Office), as each time Accord would get back like a tortoise asking for random strange info and taking forever to process it.
It got to the point, where I just told my mortgage broker to forget it, and that was after I was approved by PO.

All I can say is good luck, but if I were you, have a backup plan in place as most likely they'll let you down and you'll be in trouble.
  • Mizzrai how far into the application process before Accord started to ask for more information and drag their heels?
just so i can get a rough time scale and start putting pressure on my mortgage adviser to look at different alternatives.

To offer some hope to those who are applying, we're halfway through a 5 year fix with Accord and have no complaints at all other than a lack of online banking to check the mortgage balance (we can check by phone and OP by BACS, so on balance this is a minor inconvenience).

Accord's rate which was found for us through L&C was by far the most competitive 5 year fix available at the time. Customer service over the phone has been nothing less than superb. Assuming we can get a competitive rate, we'd be more than happy to stay with them when our fix ends.

  • Currently having very bad experience with them

Have had to have our documents 3 times so far, as parts seem to keep getting lost, not sure how, as everything is uploaded as one big pdf.
Got told last week that they had everything they needed to make a decision on our application.
Today I got told that there were documents missing even though they've been uploaded twice - so they were done yet again.
I was also told they don't have our valuation report even though it was done 3 weeks ago. At my mortgage advisor, their system showed they did have it.
Completely incompetent service at the moment.
