Everyone always says about a dress being just for a day, but the photos themselves last a lifetime or beyond.

    Completely agree.

But surely that stands whether you buy, hire or borrow a dress?

Also, the sweet buffet thing wont cost you £40, believe me, I was of that opinion, but by the time you've sorted it, it's a) a nice addition, but not a substitute and b) bloody expensive! lol

Good luck with getting a resolution xxx

ps, just looked at Olokia's post, have you a cake? Serve that perhaps?

I know it won't cost £40, that was just an example of a number of people the venue could feed, for the amount of sweets we could buy :)

Thank you, we are having a cake :)

Also, mildred. I never once have said sweets are a replacement for food. And saying if we're not going to have savory to not have anything at all?! Who are you to even say that. Just leave right now, I think a lot of people have realised that you are just being nasty and winding people up.
Don't forget the venue have to pay people to cook the bacon rolls, serve them and clear up after you. If you think they should just charge the cost of the bread and bacon then you're not really being fair!

Pack of 6 rolls: Less than £1.

Pack of 18 slices bacon: Around £4

Thats 6 bacon sandwiches for a fiver at cost.

They are getting charged £10 for 2. That's a profit of £25 on 6 sarnies. It does not take long to make a bacon sarnie, or wash up/clear up.

I hate how much prices are put up!

And getting sarcy saying mars bar and curly wurly, why do you not read?! the night do is starting at 8, most people eat tea around 6ish anyway, so the buffet should be just an addition if anything!

I'm sick of you now, so I'm not even going to entertain any more replies from you.

Don't vent on a public forum if you don't want other people to comment! I'm not the only one who feels as I do, or did you miss those replies?

I don't know anyone who eats dinner at 6pm, and most of my family are in Yorkshire too - that's why it often costs me a lot to attend their weddings.

I can agree to disagree, that's fine. Just trying to give you an alternative point of view. You've responded by accusing me of deleting posts (I didn't), being sarcastic (I wasn't) and having no right to provide an opinion (I absolutely do).

No need to get your knickers in a knot, love! :rotfl::rotfl:

PS - I'm just pricing up a cake that I'm making for someone's wedding. I suppose i should just charge them what it costs to make, and not pay myself anything for actually making the thing!!!

It's amazing to me that women will happily spend £1k+ on a dress that they will wear for one day, but begrudge a few hundred quid to feed their guests!

except for the fact I haven't paid for my dress as I won it... Like previously explained, we wouldn't be getting married so soon if we hadn't as financially we couldn't afford a wedding like this, so any extra's that we have to pay is hard to find the money for!

Just a thought - can you do something like cheese and biscuits? My friends did that and along with the wedding cake it fed us all. Even though you will have eaten before don't forget you will all have been on the go and drinking for a much longer time than you normally would. You and your guests will probably be very grateful of something to nibble on a) to keep a little sober and b) to stop you flagging. Also many, many brides barely touch any food all day and the evening buffet is the time they are relaxed enough to finally eat. You may find you really appreciate something a little more substantial than sweets.
I keep trying to find solutions for you because I can not help but feel you are digging your heels in a little about this. I understand your financial concerns and I think you should talk to your mum about that, (I do also think a sweetie buffet will be expensive) but I do think there is wisdom in the tradition of offering food. Please try and consider it from your guests point of view - who shouldn't expect a buffet but tradition and convention suggests there should be one - and try to provide something for them.

Thank you for the cheese and biscuits suggestion! I think I will go with that. I will call my mum tonight and just make it clear that we cannot afford to pay but if she is going to then that's fine. I think cheese and biscuits would be way better than just nuts.

And as I said in a following post, I wasn't referring to anyone in particular.

    Congrats on the win.

I'm quite aware how businesses work.. LOVE.

But a £25 profit on something that costs £5 to make is insane. Especially when it takes about 10 mins if that to make one, let alone in bulk!

I don't want your opinion as you are just being nasty. Others have given the same opinion in a constructive way, you're just being a complete cow.

I'm calm :) Me and OH spoke and agreed that we will let her have her way on it, easier than fighting it.
