I've been a lovefilm 'member' for a while (actually back to the days when they were dvds on tap ...); It was surprised to see the price difference between existing customers and returning customers that was flagged by an earlier poster (I find this practice hugely annoying – Tiscali do it as well).

It took a quick call to get them to agree to change me to the 'different' tariff (the email I sent didn't convince them).

If you're an existing customer, I'd suggest ringing them up (it's an 0870 number ... ) and they should knock £1.04 off your monthly bill, depending on your tariff, i.e. 3 discs for £13.95 rather than £14.99.

PS. I've usually found them pretty good customer service wise - the few occassions when I've either not received a disc or they've never had it back, I've never been charged, although they usually ask me to wait a few days before sending the next discs out.

I emailed them to check that I would get a DVD player if I signed up again, but they wouldn't confirm!!!!!! I guess that's a no then.

Love Film?? Bah!! The only thing these guys love about films is not sending you any, or not sending you the ones you want.

I've tried three services so far.

Tesco
Blockbuster
LoveFilm

On average I had a two day turn-around with both BlockBuster and Tesco. That is, I post the dvd's I've watched back, and two days later I get new ones from my list.

With Love Film the best they've managed is FOUR DAYS! Plus they never send me the films from the top of my list. But then again, BlockBuster were just as bad at that.

Tesco were fantastic. Quick turn-around and if I put a film at the top of my list it was virtually guaranteed to be the next one coming my way.

Once I've finished being a DVD Tart and have used all the various free trials, 'll be heading back to Tesco.

Funny how different peoples' experiences can be so different. We found LoveFilm to be excellent - 2 day turnaround. Blockbuster on the other hand, well we're currently with them and we're lucky to get a 1 week turnaround :eek:

When I post a DVD back, it's about 4 days before I get an email confirmation that they've received it (LoveFilm used to be next day), and then another couple of days till we get a film.

Having read these boards lots of people had bad things to say about Blockbuster - but then some also said they were great - so I put off using their free trial for a while. After the free period ends I definitely won't be renewing...

I cancelled my lovefilm account just before my free trial but I wasn't offered 2 more weeks?? Am I missing something?

I've just cancelled my cinema paradiso trial and it was the worst of the lot!! 14 day trial and they only send out 1 to start with to 'verify address'

I'm thinking of taking Lovefilm up on their offer and cancelling it after 3 months as I'll be off on holiday for a month so I wouldn't've kept it anyway but I'd definitly advise people not to even bother with cinema paradiso. Blockbuster was the fastest for me but costs too much.

Im currently doing the Lovefilm 3 months for the price of one and am finding it very good so far - films from the top of my list and new dvd's being received 2 days after I sent the others back.

Hope it continues!!!

What reason did you give?

I think it depends on the reason. I said "circumstances have changed" and was offered a 2 week extention.

It may also, be completely random?

I was very impressed with Cinema Paradiso. I agree their free trial is rubbish. Hidden in the small print along with the 1 disc start is the fact that those on free trials will not be given any popular recent releases as they are reserved for paying customers. Add a short 2 week trial and it's not worth it.

BUT once you start paying it is good value. Turnaround is fast and I found the discs to be in good condition (unlike Global E-Rental who can take a week to turnaround DVDs that look like they have been fished out of the other rental companies bins!)
