The real cost of having pets

The wood pellets above look similar to ones I purchase from Amazon. They cost £10.99 for a big 30 litre bag and Amazon delivers them to your door free! Poor postie struggles up the path with them but it saves my back! I've posted a link about these before, but what the hell, I'll do it again

Holy cow!
Although I don't know why I'm saying this as my little mutt used to cast £200 a month just 4 the tablets he needed.
This may be a silly idea for you but do u have a friend that would dog walk? I babysit a friends dog regularly, they wanted to pay me what the 'dog-sitter' got paid as he liked coming to me more and was clearly happier. I refused as he's lovely and no problem ,and in return if I ever need mt cat looked after
I'm guessing you haven't got time to do the same back but there may be some other way you could help them
There is something wrong with me....I can't get off this site, well the pet bit anyhow.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I am looking at my costs now, maxie used to cost over£3000 a year but he was ill. I have always called my pets the 'walking mortgage' as a joke......but they are aren't they.
I find clumping better and cheaper, just started those crystal things, but they seem to look a bit'chemical' as apposed to sand type, will check out what its made of if I can...is good stuff though and need less changes.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Thanks for this link. I might give this a try over the summer while not needing pony feeding, will save me having to drive somewhere just to buy cat litter.0 -

They also have lot's of great reviews on Amazon by cat owners who can be a discerning bunch! Let me know what you think Katy."...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make".0 -
Ok, me again....
Zara got used to Skinners so her food bills is down to average £22 per month which is great.
Was looking to save on the insurance as with the 2 girls my daughter has (6 cats and a dog) just the insurance alone is around £120-£130 per month.
Can not change Zara and George as both have preexisting conditions (dreading the reneval) but could change 5 cats.
Called PetPlan - for the same cover that I have with Aros (lifetime, 7k per year, renevable every year) - PetPln was almost double !!!!!!
Cat litter - sorry FridayCat but I absolutely HATE Oko Plus, honest to God:
1) Tracks way too much
2) Turns into dust and when it does, it does not clump
3) Clumping nowhere near as good/solid as my previous litter
BUT - I started the bag on the 20th March I believe (40 litre, just under £23) and still got quite a bit left, will last over a month this is for sure...
Will see then if I can put up with it... sigh,,, my previous one was working out at around £45 per month.. sigh.....
Flea treatment - on hold, all furies checked regularly, they have no fleas - they are not treated for fleas.
Cat food - still got about 30kg dry food so not looking at this yet. We food - sorry kitties but Classic (fish) it is.
Sigh.... re dog walker... here can not cut anything, 220-230 per month...0 -

GR - you don't have to apologise to me for not liking a product just because it suits my lot :rotfl:
I reduce the tracking by using mats (as I said before), and I find it clumps OK - perhaps not quite as good as a fine clay, but easily good enough to scoop out easily enough. And as you say, it is far cheaper than the clay-based one you were using, it is more environmentally-friendly than clay, and it is much lighter in weight.
But hey, if you don't like it, then you're entitled to your opinion0 -
Fridaycat - I guess it also depends where the trays are positioned.
I live in a flat, one is in the hallway (narrow) next to bathroom door and the other between armchair and window in the living room.
I suspect is fomeone has a dedicated space for the litter trauys, away from "main household traffic areas".. it may be easier...0 -

Quite probably... I have two large trays tucked away in a discreet corner of the dining area which are hidden by the door when it's open and one slightly smaller one upstairs. None of them are easily seen unless you go looking for them0
