Afternoon l - just reporting in a second NSD. Dinner is another freezer casserole and I am about to unearth the contents of the store cupboard to assess what kinds of meals I might be able to make. I am trying to make this fit in with SW so its stretching the old brain cells somewhat!44 day challenge

I agree Ninno, I am finding that my efforts to be more healthy are seriously being compromised by the need to use up stuff that's already there, particularly when it comes to store cupboard and baking stuff. Today I made up a tuna, rice, mayo 'salad' with a bit of chopped up cucumber and tomato. I will probably have the same again tomorrow and then just have one more lunch and dinner to think about before I go to the shop on Friday. I will aim for another bare minimal shop to try and shift a bit more of the old stock.Mortgage

The thing to do is spread the unhealthy items out. So rather than do them rapidly spread the process out over several days or weeks. Though it might help if you do not buy too much stuff that does not last too much. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
afternoon all - NSD 3 here. I've done a store cupboard check list for shelf 1 - there are more!! - and seem to have a number of sachets of uncle ben's rice / sugar free jelly / casserole mixes.
Lets see what shelf two has in store!44 day challenge

Evening all - just reporting NSD 4. The store cupboard stroll revealed some gems - a tin of peas dated 2012 - had them for tea last night - and a pack of ainsley harriot risotto mix for tea tonight.
As Frugalsod suggested I have planned this week's meals using one or two items from the cupboard and will chip away at the stash like this.44 day challenge

Hello,
I have been feeling under the weather so have not been able to keep in touch with the thread.
Spending has been erratic for January, good days interspersed with bad, so I have just removed my card details from Amazon to hopefully prevent me from spending so much on books and other bits and pieces.
I have a grocery delivery coming today and this will do us for at least a week until I need to buy some more basics such as milk.
I need to make a loaf of bread so will put the machine on shortly.
The only expenditure I know I will be having in Feb is for my mum's birthday present.
Off to catch up with everyones news.

Hi everyone, haven't been on here for a while, spent a bit in January on wardrobe items in the sales plus had my birthday, so looking to get back on track with a 'frugal February'. Still have a few hours work a week, so I've been able to add to the New Boiler Fund.
Quorn has been £1 a pack in Morrisons, so I've stocked up, did biggish shop a couple of days ago so I am hoping to only spend about £80 on groceries for Feb, plus keep my personal spends under control! Took boots to the cobblers instead of buying new, they should be good for another year at least. Next week I should only need to buy milk and veg, and hopefully not much of that.
Keep at it everyone!0 -
Hi chums last day of the month and nothing spent for awhile now as I put the last of januarys cash into my holiday fund last Monday.Tomorrow is the start of a new month and so far I have only milk to buy on my shopping list, but I can get around that for the weekend as I have some long-life stuff in the fridge unopened which I will use up over the weekend. So starting February with a no shopping weekend
:):) £60.00 in crisp fivers sitting in my food purse for tomorrows start.I always get my cash from the bank in fivers, as that way if I go to the shops and only need a couple of things if I only have a fiver on me I won't over-spend
:):)
I have a seperate fund for entertainment (mainly cash for history club and quiz night ) that I keep in a tin indoors and only take what I need with me when I go. Using only cash concentrates my mind on watching what I spend .Its so easy with a debit card to overspend .
Good luck for the forthcoming month chums
Hang onto those purse strings .
Using up what I have in store has made such a differance to the budgets

Currently planning my next mega shop to get online. The last lot has lasted me since late October and I still have plenty, of some things but am needing to get top ups of some other items. I should be able cope for a couple of weeks at least. I need to measure how much I actually use on a monthly basis, but getting another 36 toilet rolls should get me through much of the year! It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0
