Fiscal Fast – 7 days no spending (at all)

Day 3 completed. Hoping I can still stretch until Friday, but I have noticed that I have hardly any fruit left in the fruit bowl and its needed for ds3 snack box for school. Usually I send him with 2 pieces, but I think I will swap one back out for a yoghurt today and see if I can hide the remaining fruit so it lasts lol.
Day four today and can't see me spending anything so should sail through another fiscal fast day:)
My plan is to see how far I get this week, then go shopping from my list that I am adding to as the week goes on and aim for another 7 day fiscal fast from then, hopefully keep going until I have it mastered:) I am only including grocery shopping not anything else as things constantly come up with the kids and schools etc but most things are budgeted and enveloped at the beginning of each month.
I am thinking of getting another purse for next month and putting the food money in there separate from everything else, like Jackie O does, then it is very easy to see exactly how much I have and how long it has to last me:) it's a great tip:)November NSD's - 70 -

It really does work chums as it helps to concentrate your mind when you see how much you have in there to last until the end of the month /week .Back in the 1960s when I got married I only ever had cash anyway so my housekeeping £8.10.00 in those day paid for the food, gas meter, and any treats .
I had the same house keeping for almost 8 years until I had our second baby in 1969.
When prices really started to go up with the coming of decimalisation things almost doubled in price overnight !!!but also wages did as well so no better off really
I have stuck to my food purse cash system for 50 years and it works well, as you know when your purse is getting light you stop spending.I know if I really needed something I could go and draw extra from my bank account but I would rather manage on what I have, and I can still have the odd cream doughnut with a little bit of 'happy cash' saved from my food money:)

Hey everyone! Sounds like your all doing well! I last 3 days and had to give in to buy loo roll (9 for £3.35 andrex). However my head is thumping as i've run out of, and not bought any diet coke. Best i've done in a while!0

Just DH & and I here now, so the 7 day no spend is quite easy for me. How I wish that I had space for an second freezer and my trips to the shops would be even fewer and further between.0

Like JackieO, I also married in the sixties and remember the coming of decimalisation. A couple of years later saw the introduction of VAT. Shops would have price tags which would either read 'VAT included' or 'PLUS VAT'0 -
I had no choice but to spend a whole pound yesterday
I took a tin of curry for lunch and found out someone had sold the tin opener
So today I am taking in a tin opener and can have yesterdays lunch today. The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0 -
