Getting professional help to beat debt. Diary

well I am off work this week and as we can't afford to go away or even do anything, I am distracting myself with taking the dogs some really long walks!! If I sit around doing nothing I get really down about my debt and I am finding that this getting out and about plan is working! I have walked 30 miles so far since Saturday and have really enjoyed it and even though I have had the odd thoughts about my debt, I haven't really been obsessing about it too much.
If it pops into my mind at any point I try to think "Well this time next year it will all be gone" and then distract myself again. Oh I can't wait for that!!! :TLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

I find walking helps me put things into perspective also. I recently realised how lucky I was to live in such an amazing place. Also like the fact that the purse stays at home and therefore no way can I spend lol.
Next year will be here before you know it. I also really can't wait as bank of mum will be all done.
Take care enjoy the fresh air.sealed pot challenge 099

morning,
Well done on walking away the debt urge. It wont be long now - but like you I find this time the most frustrating - its like so close but so far.
I have a poundland tin for my pennies too. Last year I opened it with a tin opener and then sealed it back up with packaging tape0 -

Thanks Shinner!
I'm in the countryside so I can literally set off from my door and do various different routes. I've been here 15 years now but only in the last few months started to really go out and see what walks there are and appreciate it! I do occasionally take a few pennies with me as there are a couple of pubs near me that if I do a long walk I can stop at as a little treat on the way past. I don't spend a lot, just half a lager and I feel like I've really earned it if I have walked 6 miles or so.... Yesterday afternoon it was roasting hot and I did 5.5 miles and was just walking down off the moors, caught sight of the pub and realised I'd forgotten to bring my fiver! Still it saved me from spending it even if I was desperately thirsty!
Good luck with bank of mum! Isn't it great knowing next year it will be paid? Phew!

Thanks Lam!!
I'm going to have to get one of these tins!! Thought not sure about re-sealing it with tape..... would be too tempted to peel the tape off! :rotfl:
You are doing incredibly well!! What you owe now is just a drop in the ocean compared to when you started. Good on you!! It is a huge achievement!! :TLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

Well I followed the advice of LAM and Shinner and took myself off to poundland today and bought 3 money tins!! One for Hubby as he has recently broken into his terramundi pot (and I wasn't going to let him pay £20 for a new one when I found out about these for £1) and two for me!! One to save my £2 coins in for xmas and one to save spare change towards paying my debt. They are a brilliant idea, a decent size and best of all I can't keep breaking into it when I'm a bit short of cash! :T
Oh and even better, Hubby paid for them and he also went a bit berserk on stocking up on toiletries so I'm ok for shampoo and toothpaste for about 6 months! Ha ha!! Result! :jLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

Well done on your purchases I hope he put some silver in them for good luck. Xxsealed pot challenge 099

Well pay day has arrived again and I got a really good wage this month due to some extra hours I had to work recently :j
I have paid as much as I can off my debt this month which knocks my debt down to £5316 in total!! Hooray!!!
I really feel like I'm getting somewhere now that I'm almost down to 5k!! Plus I decided to risk the interest going up on my barclaycard and pay a chunk off it again (I find it easier to pay off than save towards making a settlement..... I know I may regret it if they put my interest up but It makes me feel better to know its coming down) and it is down to £1939!!! I know it is almost 2k still but it makes me feel so good to see that it starts with a "1"instead of a "4" like it did when I first started my plan!
Went food shopping too and managed to bump my nectar points up to £90!! Feeling good all round today!! Hope I can stay this positive from now until the end. It has been a bit of a bad year so far for me feeling anxious about my debt. It gets harder as you near the end. But at the moment I feel great! Yay!!!! :TLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

Well done - you are doing so well and you are so near the end. Keep motivated I know how hard it is - but when you get down to £3k you are spurred on again:D

I have decided that the best way to stop freaking out about debt is to keep busy! That way you don't have time to even think about it. :j
Though in a way you need to strike some sort of balance because if you are not thinking about it at all you are not paying it! Lol.
Had a hectic week or two, still working daft hours at work due to staff shortages, friends visiting from Australia, jobs to do on the farm have all kept me distracted. Time is flying by which is bad in a way as the year is rapidly vanishing but the end of my debt is coming nearer.
This weekend I set out on foot and walked an 11 mile round trip to go and watch the Tour de France pass by. A good bit of exercise (I felt like I'd done the tour myself by the time I got home with aching legs!) a free day out, and I really enjoyed the party spirit of the crowds and the race whizzing past!
I also got a free hairdo courtesy of a hairdresser pal who saw the state I had made of my hair after trying to save money and doing it myself! I have been transformed from an orange frizzy mess to a sleek blonde bob! On the downside I also got given some jeans as my friend is moving house and getting rid of mountains of clothes she has accumulated, and even though she looks the same size as me, they were so tiny I couldn't even pull them up never mind fasten them! Gutted they don't fit and also feeling a bit huge!!
On the money side of things I'm up to £94 on my Nectar card and I'm ploughing every bit of loose change I can find into my sealed tins, but other than that I'm going to have to wait until payday again before I can make a real difference.
Off to work now to earn some more pennies..... oh and talking of work I need to buy some new boots on the way home as mine have fallen apart and the super glue is no longer doing its job! Groan! Could have done without that but I can't go to work with nothing on my feet! lol.
Have a great day!
