No default gateway... it should be 192.168.0.1.
    Might I suggest:
    1, remove the netgear software
    2, switch the pc off
    3, have a cupper
4, using your laptop save your wep key to your usb key
5, using your laptop go to the netgear site and download the latest drivers for your network dongle
6, install the new netgear software on your pc following the instructions.

It might turn out that you missed something, it could be dodgy drivers or a dodgy install (it happens)

    Mainly don't stress (it won't help :D )

    Thankyou crox

Think will do this later, kids driving me mad, want to go out.

Think I need the fresh air too!!

    Will try what you said

  • Another tack you could try which is very easy and you can ask questions as you go through it on here.

Go into "Network Connections," right-click and delete the LAN 23 connection.

Then go to Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Communications and run the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard.

It's sometimes easier just to go right back to the beginning and start over.

  • Computer icons all showing wireless network up and connected, adapter showing on and connected to wireless network.

    Windows says no wireless connection
That's all good, however the 169.254.x.y IP address means authentication with the router has failed.

Are you sure you typed in the correct network key when connecting to the wireless network? Copy and paste the key from the router's config page via the working laptop and paste it into a Notepad file and transfer it to the PC via USB memory stick. Then on the PC reconnect to the wireless network and paste the key.
