In Network Connections click View - Details. Then View - Refresh. It should now show Wireless Network Connection and against that its status and device name (NETGEAR WG111v2).
Then follow the steps in post 9. While you're checking/changing the wireless network connection properties, click the Wireless Networks tab and tick 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings'.
If i click settings//-network connections/ get 2 options: broadband connection with a globe and
Local are connection 23 with the wireless symbol showing.
If I clikc on LAC get a box on the screen with 2 tabs, general and support.
General tab connection:
Status: connected
Network: jaklauren
Duration: 01:09:05
Speed: 54.0 Mbps
Signal strength: all 5 bars are green
#if I click on the button: view wireless networks I get a box which then says:
Windows cannot configure this wirelss connection
If you have enabled another program to mamage this wireless connection, use that software

Excuse me if im being a bit daft here, you use AOL as broadband provider, and you use their software as originally set up on the pc, hard wired to the pc from the modem.......is it not just a case of aol looking for their software on your pc and cant connect it?
Have you tried just launching internet explorer on its own without starting the AOL rubbish?I have nothing better to do!!!!

quick-learner, to check this, on the laptop open the Netgear router's web configuration screen and check Wireless Settings - Setup Access List. Is 'Turn Access Control On' ticked?0 -

So what happens if you click or right click on the wireless icon in your system tray? You should be able to configure it using the Netgear software if it is installed correctly.
What firewall are you using? It needs the IP range 192.168.0.1 through 192.168.255.255 in the "Internet" or "trusted" zone. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Try disabling the wired network adapter on the PC. I have had occasions where it appears IE still trys to use this rather than the wireless.0

I dont mean to sound thick, but it is not wired? had to take out the old modem and cable so just using the wireless netgear adaptor to get connection or is this wrong??:grinheart I've caught it - The TESCO bug!!:grinheartTesco points have paid for Florida holiday this year'Kids now have 'womblitis':rotfl:I :heart2: MSE£2 savings 2008 = £46Quidco £244.95 PAID 2007 - £54.62 received to dateKids Finders keepers jar £5.99 -since 26/5/070 -

Has the PC got a normal network card in it, i.e. one with an RJ45 plug on the back. If it has make sure this is disabled in the hardware profiles.0
