O2 Upfront for Life - Free Upgrade

Its something I am not prepared to do with my PUFL it seems like too much of a risk to me after all most of these sales staff have never even heard of the deal we got. They will just tell you anything to sell something new and boost their commission.0

Some points from Leopard's post:
You ought to be able to swing free itemised billing. Or at least cancel the paid billing and view the bill online
It does not qualify for O2 Treats, or this one certainly does not
My Europe applies to all O2 SIMs since last summer, but the My Europe Extra is also an interesting monthly add-on option for longer trips abroad.0 -
Tried my luck for an upgrade (got a K800i last year)
This time I got a K850i, they just kept calling it a Legacy upgrade, and that's what written on my new contract.
Second upgrade received, best contract I have ever been on (inc Cashback)
:beer:0 -
Redux,
1. By what process would one "swing" free itemised billing on a rolling deal which:
a) One does not wish to lose.
b) O2 would love one to relinquish.
c) Does not come up for renewal.
By threatening to close the account? Hardly: the usual rules apply in reverse on this deal - O2 wants people to abandon this particular contract.
So; enlighten us, pray, as to how to negotiate itemised billing as a freebie on a PUFL account.
(As for "Treats" on my PUFL account, the last time I asked for one I did receive it. But, I'll concede that this might have been an error by O2.)
PiratePete,
Many thanks for your feedback on this. Much appreciated.
(I won't be paranoid and wonder whether you're a black propagandist for O2, trying to lead us all astray. :rotfl: )
I'll slip into my local O2 shop next time they look busy during a weekend and explore, with extreme caution, what the most casual-looking staff-member might be persuaded into offering me...
The ultimate triumph, I suppose, would be to emerge with a free iPhone on a continuing PUFL contract!
Seriously, though, I reckon that O2 may well have some nice K850i s that could be massaged out of them, now that's shortly to be superseded by the C902.
You've encouraged me to look into this further and I'll keep the term "Legacy Contract" well to the fore: I'm very grateful to you. :A
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

I can assure you I am no O2 plant!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a manager on O2 and took a retirement package six years ago. I needed a mobile when I left and saw the PUFL deal and thought “what idiot thought this one up “. At the time the PUFL was over £200 but I managed to get one on eBay for £50!
I think the guy who thought up the deal might have been retired as well Ha-Ha
As I stated before this upgrade is now my second one having had the same contract as last year which is a Service Change Upgrade. It states my mobile number and all my details etc and it states that my service tariff is Existing Tariff.
On the minimum contract Period it states Legacy.
Good luck all and Millie go on ……………get a new phone0 -
PiratePete,
You are a Grade A1 Hero :A with First Class Honours! :T
Today was not a Saturday but it is my birthday, so I ventured warily into my local O2 shop this afternoon to see if they would give me a present. It was unpromisingly empty apart from me but I persevered nonetheless, armed with all the right phrases you supplied.
Lo and behold, I emerged ten minutes later clutching a Service Change (Upgrade) sheet, clearly stating Tariff: Existing Tartiff , Cost: 0 , Minimum Contract period: 12 months , Calling Plan: O2 Legacy A. With this came the categorical assurance that nothing would change and the contract would just continue, free, forever.
Annoyingly (but reassuringly, tariff-wise) they were not able to data-enable the account for even GPRS, so it remains, effectively, just a contract for a voice 'phone, with no Cross-Network minutes. It does, indeed, seem that nothing has changed.
Oh yes, there was something in my other hand, too. A smart O2 paper bag containing the last brand new, sealed, Sony Ericsson K850i in the shop. Free. :j    :j
Thank you very much, PiratePete. Without your advice, information and reassurance I'd not have risked it.
It's a marvellous, unexpected birthday present and I'm really grateful to you - and to O2. :money:

Well done, Garetha! That's a really nice little 'phone.
My neighbour (who did the same deal as I did, all those years ago, on the same day) popped into the O2 shop yesterday and came away with a black Nokia 6300; again, absolutely no problem. He's delighted with it - it's the one he wanted.
My own choice of 'phone was dictated somewhat by the fact that I use Macs and not PCs. Apple users might want to check * HERE * to see which ones can synch directly with OS 10.5 before they decide which handset to ask for.
Nokia seems finally to have decided to support the Mac system again, at least to a limited degree, and has written Phone Plugins for some of its more recent models. These are available * HERE * and are free.
Sony Ericsson is still trying to pretend that Apple doesn't exist - except as a customer for laptop batteries that catch fire - but SE users have long been catered to by * THIS * site, for models that are not on Apple's own list of supported devices. Feisar is a thoroughly professional operation and the Plugins come complete with installer. Typical cost is about £1.50 - you download the Plugin directly, online, and can settle by PayPal. Whole thing takes less than five minutes to buy and install.
Samsung and LG seem to be left out in the cold, as far as support for iSync goes, but maybe somebody else knows of sites for them?
I installed Feisar's plugin for the Sony Ericsson K850i that O2 has just given me and it works perfectly. (Usual disclaimer - I'm just a happy customer passing on a tip!)
Thanks again, PiratePete - and O2. :A :A Now just waiting for the O2 Broadband to be installed!
