O2 Upfront for Life - Free Upgrade
Options
Hi Folks,
For you people who have an O2 sim card which was a pay upfront for life, it should now be possible to get a free upgrade to the original phone by going to an O2 shop or phoning them up.
One of my friends has managed to get an upgrade and I am going to try on Thursday by going to the O2 shop.
Good luck

I rather suspect your friend has switched to a new contract on a different tariff - this is my assumption both before and after a call to their upgrades department0

Sounds interesting.
I guess this might be possible as pay upfront for life isn't technically PAYG, seems to be halfway between PAYG and a contract.
Just make sure they don't try to take away your free lifetime calls as it could be a scam to get people off the tariff.0 -
Well I have just been to the O2 shop and the deal is true.
I got a Free Motorola K1 and all I have the same tarrif as before and I had to sign a contract to say that I will stay with O2 for 12 months.
It is technically a Pay monthly deal as you get a monthly bill with no line rental.
So as far as I can see there does not appear to be any catches at the moment.0 -
better to go the shop than phone up then!
they didn't talk about the tariff then, just got you to promise to stay on the same one?0 -
This sounds good - thanks. Will call tomorrow.0

Well I treid phoning up but they didn't know anything about this and weren'\t able to offer anything (unless I swtiched to some expensive pay monthly tariff of course).
Anyone else had any luck - must be in store only or a scam/mistake.0 -
I'll try this in my local O2 store on Monday and let you know how it goes.0

Yes, I had to sign a form saying that I will stay on the same tarrif for the next 12 months.
So i have a document stating that I will be on the existing tarrif for the next 12 months.
It does seem to be a shop thing as people I know who have done it, have gone to the O2 shop to get it done.
Good luck, I do not think it is a scam, but we shall wait and see!0 -
OK I thought their is no way this could work as I have been told before by o2 customer reps that PUFL's are not allowed an upgrade unless they change to a monthly paying tariff.
Well I went into town today and went to one of the O2 shops and asked.......sorry sir but PUFL's are not given an upgrade unless they change to a differant tariff........OK cheers.
Went outside and walked along highstreet then my OH said " their is another O2 shop "
So went in second O2 shop and asked same question blah blah ..........certainly sir what phone do you want to upgrade to........Sony K800i ? ...........no problem..........asked again will I keep the same PUFL tariff ? YES she said. OH asked about 4 times ........same answer .
Computer allowed upgrade on my Tariff contract I signed states same Tariff also.
Over the moon ......been waiting for a cashback offer on this phone for ages
Lots and lots of rep ajax0 -
They may have told you 4 times that you will keep the PUFL tariff but have you got it in writing, you will have a hell of a job proving that it was said. You have agreed to a 12 month contract what happens after that, can you be sure that it will just revert to back the old PUFL. I have only had a bill for about £1.50 in total over the last few years I just use the free minutes. I am not going to risk it, they would love to get us all off this deal.0
