Right everything has been done except HP printer stuff don't feel confident enough to delete that as it came preinstalled on machine and is a tool to print better? don't know? but anyway I turned it all off last night and the proof of the pudding is in the eating so they say so
Turned it on this morning although it was quicker it still took 20 mins from pushing button to being able to use it the processor was just making a noise like it is doing something and it didn't stop making that noise until avast said Your database has been updated
Now it is all done it does feel quicker to use so think what I did definately helped but it is the time it takes to start up that is still the problem Wow surfing is so much quicker the pages load up quicker than my laptop - maybe I need to do that next.
I wonder is it worth uninstalling avast and seeing if it fires up quicker? Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

Presumably you don't have any of these printers/cameras, and don't use the image zone software?, so if they aren't used uninstall them, then reboot, post fresh log and commit.

Do you need to attach a garmin satnav to it, if not, uninstall the software.
www.crucial.com/uk - check the price of a ram upgrade.
it probably will fire up quicker without avast, as any antivirus uses cpu and ram, and you don't have much ram, hence all the questions about commit charge
Did you do a full malwarebytes scan?
start, run,
chkdsk c: /R
OK
to check the disk for errors at next boot
If it is still slow after all that, you have 2 options, buy more ram, or backup your data and factory restore it (which would have been much faster than going through all this - the same applies to your vista laptop)!!

Just an update
I bought and now have an extra 1GB installed on computer and it goes from off to usable in about 2 mins compared to the 20 mins before. It is still slow whilst surfing the net but I think that is more to do with my broadband connection and speed. Thank you to all those who helped me speed up my computer, you're all stars:TThanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.
