Giving up Money for Lent

Sorry to hear about your problems poohbear, definately have a chat with him. If you've managed to pay off 23K it wouldn't surprise me if he thinks that finally he can have a life again and has perhaps gone a little too far the other way.
My BF has decided to give up chocolate for a while as he's having problems with his skin again (also giving up cheese - woooohooo that'll save us a good chunk of our grocery budget), so that means I don't have to make him an Easter Egg. I know I shouldn't be pleased, because he gets really depressed when his skin flares up, he spoke to the pharmacist today who recommended some cream which is already having a good results.
Right must go and total up the grocery receipts and see how much of this months budget we have left.Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR0 -
woooooh just been updating my finances spreadsheet. Grocery budget was under by £3.90. The total amount of cash I've withdrawn this month is £40 and most of that has been spent either on postage and packaging for things I've sold, or the odd grocery items where I can't be bothered to use the card for a couple of quid (but have added it to the grocery budget total) plus I still have £10 in my purse.
But best yet - total amount paid into my savings accounts £500.16 !!! Ok that does allow for what was left over in my account on payday at the end of last month, and does include the amount I budget away for birthdays and christmas etc, but a good chunk of that was paid into my rainy day account.
I can't believe that I've managed to save that much, plus it hasn't actually felt like I've been depriving myself either, though that might be because I've had a weekend away (out of the holiday savings) and have had the odd treat on sundays. I can't wait for the new challenge to start now, £10 a week is going to feel like a fortuneDebts: Mum £3923 0% APR0 -

Indeed it is, CAFCGirl I've nominated you for post of the month as this challenge really has made me realise quite how much money I was wasting on "nothing".Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR0 -

I spent £20 last night going out for a pizza with some mums from my son's class. I felt this was necessary as I have never socialised with them before and need to get to know them better. However my plan to have the cheapest pizza and one glass of wine came to naught as they all ordered starters, puddings and bottles of wine and I felt I had to join them or look really sad and mean. Then we split the bill equally.
Oh well. I guess I've saved more than that in not buying coffees and sandwiches. It was an enjoyable evening and I feel I've made some friends so probably worth the investment of £20.
Bad news is I have to do it all again on Monday - but that is with two former colleagues who sometimes give me very well paid freelance work so it's important to keep on good terms with them.
Other than these blow-outs, I'm still sticking to the challenge though. And I'd like to nominate the thread too - how do I do that?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
