  • I read this forum yesterday and while I liked the thought of autoaid decided to stay with the AA as I don't always have cash available to pay for things like the autoaid service upfront to be reimbursed. Instead I rang the AA and asked them to give me the 'new customer' price for the existing package I have and they did! It knocked £30 off my renewal quote that I had received in the post and they did it without me even having to haggle. If you through to their department that deals with people who are leaving the AA then they are very happy to help. I repeat this same process each year with my mobile phone company and it always works!

after a bit of haggling and two phone calls a month apart (the first to query, the second to cancel), i managed to get my renewal reduced from £120 to £73 for identical cover (new customer price for same cover is £96). persistence pays! :)

Hi My AA cover expires 21/1/08 my cover is currently Roadside, Home Start & relay. Its Single personal membership my renewal cost is £ 137.

Therefore I have decided to shop around for the same cover. from what I have gathered from this forum, the only other option at a lot better price is first call. As I dont want to pay & claim back with Autoaid.

Do I have any other options other than firstcall ?

I've looked at the firstcall website & it seems a bit basic & non professional so that doesnt fill me with confidence in the company.

I'd be pleased to hear from a firstcall member, who has used there services when broken down. How was it ?

Your views & feedback much appreciated

Just renewed with AA and wanted to thank everyone for the advice given here. Self and son with roadside and relay was £120 and they reduced it to £96 which for two people (not spouse) I was prepared to pay. So thanks a lot I would not have thought about going down the 'thinking of leaving AA button number three' route if not for here.

I had to use First Call at the weekend when my battery went flat and I had no probs. A local recovery service arrived within 45 mins and jump started the car!
  • In Feb 2007, I renewed my AA breakdown membership, it was a joint account with roadside and relay. I paid £87 because I took out my car insurance with AA at the same time and I asked for a discount.

This morning, I received my AA breakdown membership, the renewal price was £120 from Feb 2008. I called AA and it was reduced to £96. Although I asked AA to match RAC's £92 online offer, my request was refused. Anyway, I agreed with the price so another happy year of AA cover!

I have to wonder why so many people still renew with the expensive ones. There are some cracking reviews on autoaid at less than half the cost of the big three. Is it the idea of having to pay then claiming back ?
