Just a little info, a friend broke down before joining a recovery company, he rang RAC who wanted over £100 to join the basic and to come out straight away!

He joined the AA online and rang them ASAP, they came out straight away and sorted this for him, apparently the time you join does not apear just the date, so he said he bought the car this morning and joined ASAP and there was no problems!!

May help someone else who is caught off guard :)
  • I could not underestimate how poor this company is. Do not be taken in by the price, the service and cover in reality is shocking and I would not be surprised to see them on Watchdog one day soon. If you don't believe me see the reviews on Reviewcentre. I think this site shouldn't recommend them on price alone, taking cover form them is the equivalent of setting light to a handful of 20s!

    PS

After 7 days cooling off period there is zero refund
  • At present there is an offer of free rescue/recovery/Homestart when you take out car insurance with Prudential - until 31 December. As Prudential happened to be the cheapest premium anyway for me it was a real bargain getting free breakdown insurance for the first year. It may be competitive for others.

Plus £95 back if you go through quidco

Casting round on the net I have found this site http://999icm.com/index.html

which seems to offer an extraordinary cheap recovery and breakdown service.

Would seem to beat the 'FIRST CALL' service recommended here by a country mile.

Has anyone heard or used these people yet?

It doesn't include "onward travel" i.e. hire car, train, taxi etc. after a breakdown which could be awkward if you are going to the airport.

I would prefer to use AutoAid which is £4 extra but includes the onward travel .

The courtesy car and personal injury claims are available free anyway, so is pretty worthless.

    [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=-1]From their T&C's

    8. Onward Travel
Onward Travel gives you some extra benefits once we have decided that we cannot repair your vehicle locally within a reasonable time of our attendance. This excludes incidents where we have been called to rectify failed repairs.
Onward Travel operates only within the UK.

The link above also says there is onward travel.

My point is I've never heard of these people before.

They would need a track record before I indulged.

Don't think you can argue that its not a good offer though

OK, sorry it's not included on the first link you've given.

It appears to cover one vehicle only, whereas autoaid covers anything you're driving (or your spouse).
So it's only a good deal for people who drive one vehicle only.

We have 3 vehicels in our household covered and would also be coevred if driving someone else's car.

    Absolutely, however.....

Comparing like with like, ie First Call, its a considerable saving. (£12.51)

Incidently thats £6 extra for Autoaid, not £4

Yep, you are right again. Autoaid has gone up to £36 since I took it out in August.

I agree that it looks like a good deal for vehicle based cover.
I have heard a few bad things about First call.
