As a "PS" to my previous I can tell you that when the clutch cable on my van snapped in the middle of the big roundabout in Lewisham Sout East London at 6.30 pm one Wednesday evening the breakdown operator on the end of the phone was most helpful, he took my mobile number and gave me a number to quote to the recovery service and said they would be there within the hour.....within TEN MINUTES I had a call from "Queens Motors" and the driver said he would be with me within the hour.....he was there in 20 minutes and we were safely back home within the hour and sitting haveing a cup of tea.15 quid for a new cklutch cable and a back ache from crawling under the van and I was back on the road again....job done.

Been reading this thread with interest! We have just recieved our renewal for Green Flag which we have been with for a number of years, with no complaints whatsoever, they have been marvelous. So why am I here well we are due to pay £120 which covers 2 cars and 3 drivers, the 3rd driver being my daughter. I presume, if we joined, from what I've read that I will have to pay an extra premium for my daughter, and she really needs to have a credit card which bearing in mind she is a student, she doesn't have. Will this be a problem?
    I'd appreciate some feed back

    Thanks

  • Hi,

I need to insure a new car (well, not brand new, but new to me!).

I looked on Quidco and they are offering £100 cashback on a policy with Prudential plus, until October this year they are giving free Green Flag "recovery plus" cover for the 1st year of the policy. They sai this covers "national recovery plus home call out" and is worth £54.

The premium quoted, taking into account the casback is the cheapest quote I've had so far.

I already have free RAC all inclusive cover with my existing car (with M&S car insurance) my question is does anyone have experience of calling on Green Flag? Are they reliable both in London and the home counties?

I have had needed to call out the RAC a few times and have always found them to be quite good, never used Green Flag and just wondering what people's experience is of them, good, bad, indifferent?

Also has anyone applied for this and did it track okay with Quidco and pay back the cashback?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards

My experience with Green flag was negative I'm afraid (some time ago now).

I had a windscreen wiper stop working. Thi may sounds trivial but it was torrential rain that day and I literally could not see where I was going.
Green flag "fixed" it but adjested it wrongly so it went off the windscreen onto the "pillar" at the side of the winscreen.

I didn't realise it at the time but it took the paint off the car and scratched the windscreen.
Green flag said "that's not possible" but my mechanic said it definitely was.
I took pictures and got evidence from my mechanic that day and had to claim moeny for the damage back from Green flag and get a new windscreen and paint work done.

However lots of people will tell you that they are perfectly OK, so it's down the individual garage.
Which is really my point. The service will vary at many different places that they use.
I certainly wouldn't use them again after my experience although logically I can see that the same could happen with AutoAid.
  • Thanks JuniperBerry,

£25.84 for 11 days in France. Much cheaper than any others I've found. I couldn't work out whether OH was also covered to drive though :(

Where is you found this price?
  • Hi,
I've been with the AA for 10 yrs, and decided to switch to AutoAid. By going through the AA's "Thinking of leaving the AA" phone option, the AA offered to bring my renewal (Roadside + Homestart) from £107 down to £84, and then down to £68 by covering my car instead of driver. I still went for AutoAid's £34, but this info might be useful to someone who really WANTS to stay with the AA !
  • Hi,

I use a company called Elstree Insurance Services (www.elstreeinsuranceservices.co.uk) and they offer full European breakdown cover for £47.00 a year through Europ Assistance. I haven't used them for a breakdown call out (yet) but have been informed average callout time is 40 minutes.

The price is shown on their website under the section called "Policies"

Ive just taken a Prudential policy that includes the full recovery plus Green Flag cover. I rang them to see how I could include my OH's car and van in this and they asked for £12.60 extra premium. My AA renewal due next week for full cover for myself and partner is £166 (which shot down to £97 when I rang to cancel it!).

I want to save myself at least the £97 (or £166 as originally quoted by AA) but does anyone have any views on Green Flag cover please before I cancel my AA sub.

Oh just seen someone else with a similar query re the quidco pru cover - yes the £100 cash back was shown as validated immediately.:) (Meaning that if I go with the Greenflag free cover and dump the AA ,for a full years insurance cover and breakdown cover I will have paid only £20!.
