    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a competitively priced company for single trips to Europe. I will be going to France for 10 days in a few weeks and have the Autoaid breakdown cover in the UK.

A few people have asked this question in this thread, but I haven't seen any answers that cover my situation. I don't think the previous post about the German company is just for single trips.

In the Breakdown article, there is a reference to cover for European single trips, but I can't find this in the article. MoneySupermarket just gives you options for UK Breakdown, with European cover included.

Thanks for any help you can give me,

    James.

Okay read through the whole thread but sitll need some questions answered. At the moment DH is covered as a driver via the AA (cost £92.25). He needs driver cover NOT car cover, as we don't own a car but share my brothers + hire cars + works pool car for personal use.

We need homestart and relay - ie being transported onto your destination.

I'm prepared to do some legwork but so many only cover the car not the driver, or you have to take out cover for a 'named' vehicle then add in extra cost to be covered for other vehicles.

So far I can only find the AA who offer personal cover so I was going to cancel the DD then reset it up via cashback etc.

Why don't you take out Autoaid for £34.
This will cover both ogf you for ANY car.
I think there is a limit on homestart (£65) and it's "pay and claim" but very good reports on this site and a bargain for 2 of you.
  • Try ADAC. They are a German company. Their ADACPartnerPlus package will cover you & your wife in any vehicle anywhere in Europe incl UK for 12 months. Includes all usual stuff I think, recovery, hotels, medical assistance etc. Its a bit of closely guarded secret amongst folk who go to the Nurburgring as they will also recover you from there (unlike nearly all the other companies who wont!!). Cost is 98.70 euros which I think is a steal. Ive just done it for me & my wife.
Just follow the link, click on 'Become an ADACPlus member' at the bottom of the page.
Halfway down the next page click on 'Download PDF'
Print the form, fill it in, write your credit card details on it & fax it.

I don't know if the electronic payment bit works - everyone i know just does the fax thing.

Doh. had a fault with Adobe reader on computer, reinstalled and hey presto, application form miraculously appeared where it should have been!

This cover is exactly what I have been looking for as spend 4 months a year working in europe. AND by pure coincidence am going to Nurembourg ring for the first time in August, lets hope I don't need it. Big thanks for sharing the info. Just need to find the thanks button now...... bloody computers.

Just found my car won't start. Nothing works. Been thinking of getting breakdown recovery, but kept putting it off.

Do breakdown recovery services cover existing problems? Or would I have to join, and then phone in a few days claiming to have just found the problem?

I really must learn not to keep putting things off!

    Hi,

I'm currently an AA member but am thinking of switching. As well as the normal cover I have 'Breakdown Repair Cover' (formerly 'Parts and Labour Cover') which, as the name suggests, pays for repairs - subject to a £25 excess and with numerous exclusions. Details here.

(On one occasion it paid for a repair bill of £270, but on another occasion the fault was excluded so I was left with a £200 bill.)

I just wanted to know whether any other company offers a similar service, and if people think the AA's cover is value for money at £65...

On the one hand I want to leave the AA and save money on breakdown cover, but then I like the (relative) peace of mind of repair cover. If I do leave the AA and end up with a huge repair bill which would have been covered I would kick myself. Advice greatly appreciated!

    Hi all,
I have been insuring motor vehicles with the Co Opertive Insurance company for many years and like most their premiums have gradually increased over the years even though I am now over 50 (more discount) and have their maximum allowed NCB. (70%)This year when my renewal came through it was a lot higher than I had expected or had budgeted for so I phoned their quote line....0845-7-464-646 to ask about the increase. Then I asked "How much would it cost to insure the same vehicle with the same cover as a NEW CUSTOMER?"....had to sit on the phone for about another ten minutes putting all of my details back into the system and whilst doing so I was asked if I would like "Roadside Recovery" added in......that was an extra £52.00 if taken out with my comprehensive policy and when I got the final quote I was still more than THIRTY POUNDS Better off by becoming a new customer AND had now got breakdown cover included which I had never had before....1993 Transit van, for social domestic and pleasure (used like a private car) including my breakdown cover all for the grand total of £281.70...SORTED!
    happy motoring.
    regardsTed
