If they never got involved in the complaint then they have not acted for you and you shouldnt pay them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Do you mean you claimed the PPI back and then did the same claim with a claims company (i.e. tried to claim twice)?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I was contacted by the Halifax early last month to say they're reviewing my PPI claim. It's been successful - I phoned to check as iwas told I'd have heard by Christmas and hadn't. I'm still waiting for the letter but know they've offered me £1800. Without seeing the letter I think this is reasonable - I've paid around £9/mth PPI for 10.5 years. However a few people have told me to reject the first offer and I don't know if I should?
Many thanks!0 -

I think you need to be a bit clearer - I am not quite sure what the situation you are trying to explain actually is..0 -

PPI redress is an agreed and fixed calculation of refunding you - you will never get back more than you paid (plus the interest they add on) so rejecting it is pointless unless you can prove with your own documents that it is wrong.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

I am pretty sure I had PPI on a loan I took out in 2002. I no longer have any paperwork and cannot remember the name of the company I took it out with. Because it is more than 6 years' ago, I haven't been able to get the info needed from a credit report co such as experian. Is there any other way I can find out?0

Beyond your own record, all you can do is try and remember - that information (on unsecured personal loans) is not in the public domain - only thing I can think of is asking your bank if they have any record of the funds coming in and seeing who sent it. Beyond that the complaint is dead in the waterSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

really don't know if I ever took out PPI many years ago or even what things I brought, I know I had a lot of catalogue purchases.
if I ask a "no win-no fee" will they be able to check everything for me as I have no paperwork at all?
thanks0 -
No they won't.
You have to do the work.
You wil have to send a SAR and £10 to the catalogue firm and see what paperwork is left, but it's up to you whether you spend the money or not.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
