  • Is there a time / date before which you can not claim please? Would a mortgage taken out 35 years ago count? As we were paying 25% interest, believe we were likely to have been seen as gullible and prime for miss selling.

With some types of PPI, yes.

What makes you believe you had PPI 35 years ago? That is typically before PPI was available. It didnt really start being issued until 30 years ago and didn't become widespread until 25 years ago.

How did you buy the MPPI?
I assume it was monthly premium (as that was the only type available in the early years)
Why do you think it was mis-sold?

I was charged PPI on an Egg Loan in 2003. Is this something I can recover? Who from?
I also had a loan from Black Horse in 2009 which included insurance but doesn't say what the insurance was. I can't think of any other insurance that may have been part of the HP agreement. Should I claim anyway? Thanks

You can complain about PPI to anyone you had it from, you don't "recover" it though, you put in a complaint about why you feel it was miss-sold to you - I think Egg complaints go through Canada Square now (search this sub-forum for the address)

Black Horse - same principle though would be best establish what you had first.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Thanks for the prompt reply!
  • My original Debenhams card had insurance, however I don't know who to contact about it as the card was then taken over by Santander. I can't remember my account number either - is this a hopeless case???

Ambrose Wilson also used to charge for insurance - is that reclaimable too?

    Thanks

    When was the sale?

If it was pre-2005 when the card was taken out you might as well forget hopes of any fast refund as it's pre-regulation - you can try the store, who will reject it, then santander, who will reject it but then try the underwriter and you may get lucky, couldn't say either way

  • Hi, thanks for quick response, just wanted to ask following on...
I can't really remember much and how could I find out, if I don't have the paperwork. Also is it essential to have all the documentation to claim, and could I request copies or is it too far back?
    Thanks

You don't need the documents per se to put in a complaint but after 6 years or so they tend to start deleting them so it depends when your finance was up - if neither of you have copies it would be a non-starter.

Your complaint seems to be that you believed the PPI would cover you automatically when losing your job but in actual fact you needed to claim on it yourself - if their documentation makes it clear you needed to make a claim not an automatic kick-in then it would be a non-starter so it's up to you if you want to make a complaint but it's a very weak reason and I wouldn't expect success off that alone.

  • Hi, I purchased a loan though HSBC's internet banking/loan application - this was automatically agreed with the funds transferred to my HSBC bank account almost instantly. So I didn't 'speak' to any HSBC staff member to be 'miss-sold' PPI.

I can't recall opting in or out for PPI, and all my paperwork was in soft format, so I have no idea if PPI is included. I only have old hard copy loan statements.

Suggestings for claiming, or even if I can claim? I can't find an answer within the PPI FAQ's that matches my situation.

    Thanks
