Years ago, when we were applying for a Mortgage, the Bank Manager ( BofS) informed us that we had to take out an Insurance policy with Standard Life to cover this and that no other policy was acceptable. Can anyone tell me if this falls under the mis-sold PPI thing? We believed that the Mortgage was the way to go at the time and so we accepted it.
    Is a claim feasible?

Banks were nearly always tied to one insurer (and most still are). That is quite normal and nothing wrong with that.

Standard Life as are a life assurance company. So, this would be a life assurance. Not PPI.

How long ago is this as banks used to insist on life assurance and are allowed to. However, it is less common nowadays

You're out of luck. Car dealers weren't regulated prior to January 2005.

  • Hi, can somebody help me please. I took out a load for £10000 with Lloyd's in 2001. I was only 19 at the time and was advised by Lloyd that this was the best course of action to take to pay off some car finance and and a credit card. I was also advised that I had to take out PPI in order to get the loan. Anyway to cut a long story short I got into financial difficulties a couple of years later and stopped making repayments after I was forced to move house. The debt caught up with me in 2005 having been sold on to first credit then Mackenzie Hall. After setting up a repayment plan with Mackenzie Hall I eventually cleared the debt last year after I was offered a one off reduced payment to clear the remainder of the debt. I took out another bank loan in order to pay off the account and also pay off two other accounts with activ capital relating to defaulted credit cards (one with Lloyd's and one with Barclaycard) that were taken out at a similar time (2001-2002).

Anyway, all 3 accounts have now been settled, I don't have any outstanding payments on any of them. I also don't have any of the original account numbers. My question is, given the information above can I reclaim any PPI from any of the 3 accounts? (I don't have PPI on the latest loan).

Not on the same finance, otherwise you can have as many as you want...
