PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

If you still aren't sure if you want to claim PPI then DO IT! I wasn't sure initially as i had been subjected to a 5 year IVA which i was now clear of and had paid off in full.
There's no way they will pay anything back to me because of my previous IVA i thought so why bother? But i did. I followed Martin's advice and sent out his template letters to EVERY bank and credit card that i had ever had. Most came back with the standard reply, you didn't take out PPI, which was fine, i couldn't remember if i had indeed ever taken any out but it was worth a try. Finally i got 2 letters from RBS. I opened the first one, an offer of £1000 for a loan i had years ago. Great! Then i opened another letter, an offer of £4300!!!! AMAZING! I've signed the acceptance letters and will post tomorrow. I'm still in complete disbelief but so pleased i took the time and effort to fill in those forms and send those letters! I'm just about to buy my first house after finally sorting out my University financial predicament and this is an excellent result.
DO IT! even if you have had an IVA in the past!
Good luck, and Martin and MSA team...............THANK YOU!!0 -
Hi all
Me an the Mrs took out our first mortgage in 1994 with Halifax. At the time we were quite young and wet behind the ears and had no experience with mortgages etc.
The mortgage was for £35,000 and we were told that we had to take out PPI and an endowment to get the mortgage. We had the mortgage for 7 years and then moved house. The endowment was worthless so we cashed it in so I guess I have no case for a claim but do I have a case to claim the PPI?
I know it's old but I do have all the paperwork, statements etc. I religiously file all paperwork. What are my chances of a successful claim after 20 years since we took out the mortgage?
Any advise would be appreciated.

It's impossible to comment on your chances of success, not least because you don't actually say in what way your PPI was mis-sold.0 -

Quite possible. In the mid 90s, many lenders had deals which required an insurance purchase. That was allowed as long as the insurance was suitable. The endowment was worthless so we cashed it in so I guess I have no case for a claim but do I have a case to claim the PPI?
On what basis would your complaint be? Nothing in your post indicates any wrongdoing. What are my chances of a successful claim after 20 years since we took out the mortgage?

Hello All,
Hope you can help.
Firstly, after reading this forum I decided to contact MBNA to find out if I had PPI on the credit card that I had. I was informed that I had and was had my details taken after stating I would like to investigate if I had been mis-sold ppi. The helpful person I spoke to, updated my details (address/phone) and said someone would be in touch soon.
I received first letter dated 5th November stating my complaint had been assigned to a case manager.
Second letter on the 29th November apologising for delay as their investigations were taking longer than expected. "We will issue a response by 27/12/2013
Third letter on 6th December stating "I am sorry that you had cause to complain about PPI" They confirmed I took out the PPI on 15th October 2001 and I am pretty sure I cancelled it in 2010.
Fourth letter 27th December stating that "unforeseen circumstances is causing a delay but they will respond within the next 14 days" - Also stated that they are obliged to inform me that it is my right to refer complaint to FO within 6 months.
As it was 2001 when I took out the card and policy, I am a little sketchy on how I applied. But I don't think that the policy was right for me and certainly wasn't told that it could be found elsewhere or about the exclusions etc.
In 01 I worked for a firm (now bought out and renamed) that had a full pay sickness package, although proving that now would be impossible as have no documents to support. What I am worried about is that if I applied via a form (pre-ticked box) than do I have a leg to stand on?
Cancelled the PPI in 2010 when g/f (who used to work for MBNA sales) told me to as they never paid out and I didn't need it anyway.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

You'll just have to be patient and wait for the Bank to respond to your complaint before we can offer any useful advice.
If the Bank continues to be tardy, you have the right to refer your complaint to the Ombudsman-but as this process takes in excess of eighteen months, I'd wait a little longer if I were you.0 -
I'm not sure if I have posted this in the right place, as this my first post and need a spot of advice? I submitted a mortgage ppi claim with Northern Rock in Jan 2013. Early in March I got telephone call from customer relations to ask a few questions as they had 'lost my forms'. Although I explained I had builders in right at that time with drilling etc and it was an awkward time, he still prattled on. One question was 'why did I stop the payments'? I answered that as it was quite some time back I couldn't say for definite, perhaps we were remortgaging or looking at finances? He asked why I submitted the claim and I said it could have been due to the recent media information around miss old policies? Two days later I got a letter saying that as I was aware of ppi misspelling within the last 6 years and should have claimed within 3 years, my claim would not be considered. I feel my replies were twisted (particularly as my remortgage was 2004) I have taken this up with the FOS, but now they want me to say why I cancelled and I don't remember . . . Any advice? Sorry so long to explain0

Just be truthful and say you don't remember.0

If I applied by post - was the box pre ticked? If it was, do I have a case?
I have been sent a form but as unsure how the policy was taken out originally, there is a don't know section but the one thing I am 100% sure of is that the company I worked for gave full pay for illness and that I was never told that I could get a PPI policy elsewhere, or that there was a cooling off period or what the costs were.
I think that - wondered if anyone knew about the pre ticking of applications at that time? Tbh I have had a fair few cards/loans and can't remember the details for all of them.
I know for a fact then when I had HSBC loan that I signed for it at a branch but never had a conversation about suitability of the policy or that I could get elsewhere. I could also try with them I suppose but it was for a fixed loan in 98 and another loan (to repay first) when in early twenties. Too late to investigate those?
Thanks

As simple as that? Wow thanks! I genuinely cannot recall the reason, but I do know for certain it was not because of misspelling misselling (blinking auto correct!) issues, as I would have submitted a claim way before now.
My mortgage is the only debt. Couple credit cards, But only ever use them to our own ends - not the banks ie never incur interest. So am stumped myself why I stopped too. My husband and I both public service workers with in service death benefits, sick pay entitlement for up to a year, which may have had something to do with decision, but didn't know whether they would need to know that?0
