Apologies if this question has previously been asked (I did try the 'search' option)
BF was told by MBNA that he would only be approved for their credit card if he purchased PPI.
Years later he was made redundant, but PPI wouldn't pay out as he was already behind on his MBNA credit card minimum monthly payments.
    1. is this correct that PPI companies don't pay out when you are in "arrears"?
    2. if yes, should he still make a claim due to the way PPI was sold to him?

Many many thanks for anyones help.

but I can prove all the payments I made over those 2 years via bank statements. Surely that constitutes 'recording'?

It only proves you paid money to them but not what you paid it for.
What did you pay it for and who sold it to you?

  • I paid it to 'Future Mortgages', which has since been taken over by Citibank and it was a mortgage account. They were a sub-prime lender, and I just have a suspicion that, as such, they were far more likely to slap on PPI automatically.

  • Hi all
I have a problem. I had a loan in 1985-91from a bank which I paid back and I know I had ppi on it. I have no documents to prove this. I apporached the bank and they say they do not have these details. Is there anyone who knows how I can achieve this.

If you have nothing and the bank has nothing then its game over.

Are you sure you had PPI in 1985? It was typically something that became available from the late 80s and early 90s.

To DunstonH. That's interesting. Please see my earlier posts with a similar issue. My former mortgage lender told me they had no details, but I have copies of bank statements, showing my payments to them over 2 years. They're now, eventually, saying that I paid no PPI and sounded surprised when I asked for that decision in writing. I'm disinclined to believe them, given that they were a sub-prime lender. Would you advise going the Ombudsman route?

As another said, that's only proof that you made payments to them; not proof that you paid for Payment Protection Insurance. You certainly have more evidence than someone who has no documentation at all, but what you have only supports your complaint; it doesn't prove anything.
  • forms and such like is very confusing for me.

I paid insurance on my credit card, policy started may 2005 it was with citi I was told when I took it out that it was what I needed because I was self employed, I have the document they sent to me by post with the certificate number on and the monthly fee.

I did feel I was pressured into getting it in case I was ill and couldn't pay my card payments.
I no longer have this credit card.

Can anyone please point me to the correct form to send, I am getting through dyslexia now that I am reaching retirement age with the use and help of computers but still find all this very difficult.

    Many thanks for any help

  • Hi all, first post here. I am trying to help my dad out he had a credit card, which he has paid PPI on since 2006. He recently contacted his bank (HSBC) and they told him they can't find paperwork relating to PPI:eek: ! I don't know what to say to him so here I am asking for help please :) Should he continue to an ombudsman, try the bank again or something else.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
