Contact the banks first and ask, if you have branches near to you then go in and ask, depending on the outcome of this you may need to do a Sar request, we will cross that bridge when you get to it.
  • Hi
Our PPI claim was refused by lloyds so we went to the ombudsman. They upheld our complaint! Yay! The 12 weeks lloyds had to offer a settlement has now passed. We've been back onto the ombudsman but does anyone know what happens now please? Many thanks.

    Hi,

    Bit of advice please.
Have started a claim for the wife on a open account but my history is a bit more difficult. Ive decided I want to try and tackle it but not sure the best process.

    HSBC mortgate - ongoing
    Virgin card - closed
    Tesco card - closed
    Egg card - closed
    Probably a few more too.

I'll get an updated credit check and I've got some older ones from a few years back. Is it just a matter of phoning round the providers and asking If I had PPI?

I have seen the template letter for closed accounts but this seems to ask for paperwork rather than just whether PPI was charged or not. Is this the right letter?

    Any advice on getting started?

    Thanks

It might be quicker to call up and ask. Do be aware though that all this will tell you is whether you had a policy. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have grounds for complaint regarding it.
  • Hi All,

I have been looking through pages of posts but am keen to get some help for my circumstances.

Firstly thought I would try MBNA, I opened a credit card with them in October 2004, managed to close it out November 2011. I have no paperwork as my better half has thrown it all away but I think I applied for it online. I cannot ever remember ticking a box or speaking to someone that which gave me all the information relating to PPI.

I guess the first point is how do I approach this in the first place. I am a bit dubious that the online form where "I don't remember" would be checked would result in anything that would be considered successful.

I was going to use the above but don't have a record of my account number.

My father had Motorneuron and my mother has Multiple Sclerosis and would have made sure that I informed them of this knowing that it could have an impact on a claim.

There are more instances of PPI that I could attempt a claim on, including HSBC loans when I was 18 (1998) where the same thing applies.

Sorry if this is covering old ground I am just nervous of picking up the phone and getting tied up and not being confident in what I am trying to do.

    Thanks in advance

it doesn't matter what dieseases your parents have, it matters whether you have them.
Juat make your complaints and don't over think it.

So just fill in the form and see what happens? Anything I can do about the loans from 98?

    Thanks

Only if you have a valid complaint, certainly no point trying to argue that medical conditions afflicting your parents would have somehow invalidated your insurance.
Realise also that if you applied online for PPI then you are more likely to have simply mis-bought rather than been mis-sold.
