I got a rejection letter from Central Trust today.

They had a long list of reasons why, said they'd listened to teh phone call and my ex had told them we had existing cover with the Halifax but that it only covered credit commitments for a year and their PPI lasts longer than that. They also said we weren't told it was compulsory (we were, but I don't think that was in the initial phone call, but when we rang after receiving the documents) and that they believed it was the best cover for us.

They did acknowledge that they weren't happy that it was front loaded, and were liaising with the lender to find out more details from that and would get back to us with an offer.

They also gave us a breakdown of the loan:

    Cash loan: £25k
    PPI: £4,982.50

The loan was settled early (After about 5 years as opposed to 15) So not sure what that means.

From the fact they've said all that, they are acknowledging that it was an advised sale, and also acknowledging that the front loaded aspect wasn't right. Do you think that stands me in good stead with the FOS, or should I accept whatever offer they come back with and be grateful that it's something?
See what they offer you first and then take it from there, if they give you full redress you should get the ppi back less the rebate they gave when you settled plus 8%.

I can't imagine it would be full redress if they've told me they've rejected my complaint. It was worded as though they'll make a small offer after talking to the initial lender.

I'm pretty sure we didn't get any kind of rebate when we settled, would they have taken that off the settlement figure?

You wouldn't have paid the entire £4K of PPI since the loan was settled with ten years left to run.

Have your letter to hand when they call. Just repeat the same reasons you've given in the letter if asked. However, it's likely that they are simply requesting clarification on some aspect or detail.
    Don't worry about it.

Well, the "new thread" button is perhaps more appropriate to start a new topic-but this thread is already a very general discussion thread. So post away, stringy102!;)
