    Hello,

We're claiming PPI using Stake Your Claim (via Payplan) and have been offered a settlement. Reading some of the responses conflicts with what Payplan & SYC have told us regarding paying the fees.

We were told the fees owed would be put back into the DMP arrangement. Does this seem correct? Given the settlement will reduce the debt and we will not see anything so finding a lump of money to pay the fees is not a pleasant thought. :(

Any advice would be appreciated. :T

Give the MOJ a cal and ask them, you have replaced one debt with another, they may advise you what, if anything, you can do.

  • Hi Everyone,

I'll try and keep things as brief as I can.

In 2010 I contacted Yorkshire Bank for a credit card PPI refund as I believed it was missold. After their final letter to me rejecting the claim, they advised me to contact the FOS within 6 months.
I fully intended to do this, but at around the same time, my mother's health deteriorated and she became my main priority rather than my PPI reclaim.

In 2011 my mother passed away, and my thoughts of the PPI claim returned, but because the 6 month time limit had long since passed, I was unsure whether or not I could still make a claim.
I was advised through this site to make a complete new claim from scratch, which I did, but this time there was no response at all from Yorkshire Bank.

I contacted the FOS explaining the situation and the reasons why my initial claim had been interrupted. They contacted Yorkshire Bank who objected to any investigation due to the time limit having been passed, regardless of my circumstances, so the FOS said they could not take my case any further.

I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or could advise me on the best course of action to take now. Going through a claims handler or legal company seems very daunting as I wouldn't know who to trust.

I really would appreciate any advice.

    Thank you
    Chris.

Your six month window of opportunity passed almost three years ago, I'm afraid.
Remember, even if you had managed to refer your case to the Ombudsman there is no guarantee that you would have had any success there.
No Claims Management Company can help you, your complaint is now dead and buried.
    Sorry.

Just dipping my toes in to the waters of claiming PPI back, so can I ask if there is a limit as to how long ago a loan was taken out? E.g I know I took a loan out with the Natwest at least 15yrs ago and in the branch I was told that I had to take out PPI or I wouldn't get the loan amount I needed.

Can anyone help with this? I took out a mortgage with a building society in 1998 and was sold a mortgage protection plan from Rothschild which later became SJP, I was self employed at the time. The mortgage was an interest only mortgage and extra was borrowed for putting into a PEP which was to pay the interest off in a few years time when the investment grew sufficiently. The salesman worked for SJP as a partner and arranged the mortgage with the payment protection plan which was around £60 a month. I have the plan number which was made paid up on 12 September 2000 when I became fully employed by a large company with sickness scheme and pension etc. I believe this may have been mis sold due to my mortgage being a low loan to value ratio meaning the building society could not loose out, the persuasion of the salesman suggesting I had to have this, also the high cost. Has anybody had success in making this type of claim before?
I was then sold a Flexible protection plan for a cost of nearly £60 per month which ran until august 2004 which would have paid out 100K in the event of death, critical illness etc, but had and still have considerable cover from my employers and would have said at the time, so could this be claimed back also. Sorry this goes on a bit but I have tried to give as much info as possible. Thanks.

You havent given any reason for mis-sale. Also, it is pre-regulation (Jan 2005). The reason you think it may be mis-sold is not a valid reason. You had a financial need for it and you got it. A low loan to valuation does not remove the need.

It is also unlikely your employer provides you CI cover and most death in service plans only pay out upto 4x salary. That is typically short of most peoples financial needs.

Finally, none of what you have mentioned is PPI.

The offer is right, they have given you the PPI and interest and the 8%, they have taken tax at source so you do not even have to inform HMRC, if you are a non taxpayer or pay the higher rate of tax then you need to contact HMRC, you need the tax back if you are a non taxpayer and will need to pay the extra if you are a higher crate taxpayer.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE......AT LEAST I KNOW NOW AND IM DEEPLY GREATFULL FOR YOUR HELP.
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND KIND REGARDS !:T:j

  • Hi all,
I have made it my New years resolution to look into whether or not I can claim back on PPI or not.

I have signed up for my credit report and can only see 1 item on there where I may have had PPI but I do recall I had a credit card and a loan from M&S when I was younger that I believe had PPI on them both.

The trouble is these are both nearly 20 years ago and the only reason I recall them is that the PPI was sold on the basis of my age.

Any idea how (or indeed if) I can go about making any claim?

Not wanting to join the 'band wagon' but want to make sure I have ticked one of my resolutions off!
