PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Think I posted this on the other thread in error.
Hi,
I have ginven some thought to progressing PP1 claims. I took my Mortgage out in 1993 with Alliance and Leicester(now santander). The mortgage has now been paid off. It was an endownment type mortgage but about half way in to the 20 year term I switch this to a repayment mortgage via a Bristol and West BS. I have also had two loans, one from Alliance and Leicester and the other from The COOP.Both paid off now.I have not taken any loan for over 8 years.
My problem is I dont have a great deal of detail to progress this, thus I was seriously considering progressing these claims through a handling company. I have however logged a complaint today with my bank( the COOP) who should at least be able to treat my loan with them with a degree of professionalism.
Any advice on how I should progress would be helpful. In truth I dont even remember if I was offered PPI. Someone suggested having a credit report carried out but I dont know what this would prove.
Many thanks0 -

A credit report would not tell you if you had MPPI. Santander may not be able to tell you either if A&L didnt sell it to you (e.g. you bought via a broker/adviser). A claims company would not help you either as they need you to tell them the details.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). t I do recall I had a credit card and a loan from M&S when I was younger that I believe had PPI on them both.
The trouble is these are both nearly 20 years ago and the only reason I recall them is that the PPI was sold on the basis of my age.
You can try but these are both pre 2005, they do not have to keep records for longer than necessary, so unless you have your own records and statements, it's likely to fail just because it was so long ago.
However, there's no harm in filling a form and sending it off, it won't cost you more than the price of a stamp and the printer ink and paper, so try, but dont be surprised by a refusal on the above grounds.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Hello everyone
I posted this a while ago, but still can't find an answer. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks if you can help.Cheapskate wrote: »Evening everyone
I've waded through a lot of the PPI info on here, but am struggling to discover whether or not we can claim against our mortgage company. We re-mortgaged between 3 and 4 years ago, and were told we needed PPI to be approved for the deal (for both existing amount and extra we took out). We assured the bank we had adequate savings for a while to pay, and fairly secure jobs, but were told if we didn't accept we wouldn't be re-mortgaged. Does this count as mis-selling is the question? I have some of the paperwork, and can track what we've paid through bank statements; the insurance is the bank's own insurance.
Thanks if someone can point me in the right direction!

hi there, I checked out the free credit check company listed on the MSE however they only go back 3 years, I need to go back to 2005-2010, is there a company that does this.
Do I need the account numbers and exact payment details to claim - some of the info says no, others say yes?
I was told at the time I needed PPI in order to gain the load otherwise we were unlikely to be granted the loan, so looking here we have a good claim, as they obviously werent allowed to do that0 -
hi folks! had a letter from capital one today offering us a refund, which is great, but we really could use some advice.
we are paying the card debt off through a debt managment plan . basically, we have had the card 15 years and have used it well building up/paying it off until about 4 years ago when we starte to struggle financially. we took out a debt consilidation loan and paid all our credit card debts off. one of the things we did to reduce our mothly outgoings was to cancel all the insurances on the cards, and managed to rack up debts on them again, hence the debt managment plan we have now.
so, my questions is, can the banks now take our ppi refund that relates to a debt that has previously been paid of in full?
hope to hear from someone soon! thanks in advance guys0 -

They can use the redress payment against a debt that is in arrears, defaulted or had amounts written off (going against write offs is a pain for you as it means your debt wont reduce - if any write offs were involved).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). make a complaint.
but it was a long time ago, so they may have no records left, so unless you have your own, i.e. agreements, statements etc, to show you paid it, then your complaint will probably fail.
Even if he is successful, they will only pay what he paid, plus interest, so you don't say whether he defaulted or not, or whether he continued to pay.
thanks for your reply taff!0 -
i've been checking my dad's other accounts and it appears that he has ppi on two credit cards that were sold on to other lenders at least twice . My dad can't remember how the ppi got put on on the original accounts but thinks that they used phone calls to sell it to him.
is it a good idea to use a s.a.r. on the current owners to try and find out whether or not the ppi was mis-sold?
my dad also had ppi on two credit cards that have now been closed. can we s.a.r. be used on closed accounts?
thanks in advance.0 -
Hi all
Just looking for some advice iv sent claim forms into halifax claiming for multiple loans i have previously had with them. I totalled up the amount of ppi i have paid with them and its up to £3983.00. They have now offered me two seperate payments for the seperate loans of £274 plus £90 soemthing pounds? obviously this is a considerable amount less than what i have been expecting. Having spoke to them again today they claim that they are putting me back in the financial situaion i would have been in had i not had the insurance? which is completely wrong! im thinking to now take it to the ombudsman is that correct?
has anyone else experienced the ppi companies trying to fob them off with smaller refunds???? advice would be appreciated?0
