Hi Everyone Is there a time limit to claiming PPI? If so how long is it please.

    Thanks in advance

Takes about 10 minutes to draft your complaint. You post it. Then it will take anything from a week (if you get lucky with an auto payout) to 18 months if they reject and you have to refer it to the FOS.

Depends really on how strong your reasons for complaint are and the firm in question.

  • Thanks dunstonh, I appreciate the advice given. The advice is for my wife and the bank was Lloyds TSB. I can distinctly remember the girl saying who arranged the loan at the time that having the PPI would help my wife to get the loan and so we accepted that.
  • Bad news - Had RBS assessors letter back saying they dont believe any mis-selling took place as their "staff are trained to ensure customers understand policy is optional" - but, they cant produce my original application form (from 1986) as its been mislaid, so there is no proof that the form i signed to get my credit card wasnt a "tick here if you dont want it" sort of thing.

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know for sure what was being used by RBS back then??
Do you think i stand any chance with Ombudsman now, on the basis that i thought i had to have it in order to get the credit card (well thats how i remember the ppi being sold).

Oh and i'm now fuming:mad: as my credit limit has been reduced to £1000 becaused they've realised they dont have my original T&Cs - how's that fair?!

    1986 is 26 years ago.
Lenders did use pre-ticked boxes at various times, but it's impossible to say for certain exactly when.

You have proffered the weakest hearsay complaint possible on a sale that took place almost three decades ago. Seriously, what do YOU think your chances are?

It's fair because the Bank no longer have a properly legal credit agreement with you. If you consent to sign a new agreement, your credit limit should be restored.
  • Hi all, I was going through old paperwork & I have just realised that I have had PPI on a house insurance policy 2003 & 2004. Can I claim that back?

Yes, I have the paperwork. It is for contents insurance. Paperwork stating it is PPI comes with it.

You have ppi on contents insurance?
As in, you were paying a separate payment to ensure you can pay your contents insurance?

Could be right, I had it on mine with the post office a few years ago, soon cancelled this as cover is costly enough without extra insurance.

You could theoretically have it on home insurance or motor insurance as both can involve credit for monthly premiums. However, most people buy theirs without advice or rep (e.g. online). So, mis-sale is unlikely
