PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

I contacted London and Country mortgages as they had arranged 2 mortgages for me in 2002 and 2004. I explained I wanted to know the names of the mortgage companies (as i no longer have details, having paid the mortgage off in 2007)with a veiw to looking into whether I had had, or been mis-sold, PPI.
They told me that on my (re)mortgages, with Yorkshire Bank in 2002 then Alliance and Liecester in 2004, there had been PPI (with Paymentshield) for a free introductory period, but that it may have been cancelled, after the free period. They said they could look into this for me, and have sent me a letter saying that I agree with the following statement - "Your complaint is in relation to the misselling of a PPI policy. Wilst you had no specific concerns with the policy taken out with Payment shield, you want to check that it had not been missold"
- I dont feel too happy with this as I want to know if it was sold to me at all, and dont want to say I had no specific concerns with it being taken out.
Can anyone suggest alternative wording, as this makes it sound as if I am talking myself out of a claim before I start?0 -

No point doing that. Your broker is L&C. They are liable for anything sold. Not the lender.- I dont feel too happy with this as I want to know if it was sold to me at all, and dont want to say I had no specific concerns with it being taken out.

They have said you had the paymentshield cover during the free period but didnt take it up and therefore paid no premiums.
So, there is no complaint to make as you didnt pay anything. Even if you did, both mortgages were pre-regulation for insurance. So, they could probably eliminate it anyway. Plus, paymentshield only did monthly premiums standalone. So, all the most common complaint reasons wouldnt apply to this anyway.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I was called by one of the PPI claim companies stating that I may be entitled to PPI for a loan within the last 12 years. I thought you could only claim for the last 6 years. I wouldn't use one of them as I am pretty confident in my own ability to copy a letter template off this site.
I had a Graduate loan from HSBC around 12 years ago purely because I was told I would not get it without PPI. Unfortunately I no longer have any of the paperwork, so is it worth trying to get the PPI back?
Cheers in advance for any help:j0 -
Had an offer letter today off hfc regarding a gm card, the letter says the following " all ppi premiums applied to your account & interest charged on these premiums now needs to be refunded" nowhere is there mention of the 8% interest, on the breakdown it says the following:-
Annual card rate 14.004%
Date charge applied 01/10/00
Amount of charge £25.48
Date interest accrued to 11/02/03
Number of days lapsed since charge 914
Interest. £8.94
Total amount of offer £34.42
There are 64 of these entries, with differing amounts,
Total amount of charge is £583.63
Interest £402.01
nowhere does it say interest at 8% of £***
Does this sound right, Im not sure if they've offered the 8% from when they charged the ppi up until today, I think there just offering ppi premium plus interest charged on the premiums,
Any thought folks?...0 -
Hi all,
I'm a member of numerous forums on here but this is my first post on PPI claim
I've currently got 5 claims ongoing with HSBC due to mis-sold PPI.
I've received my first 'rejection' today with HSBC stating they due to the fact my mortgage ran from 1999 - 2004 I have fallen outside of the 'allowable' 6 years limit to make a claim.
Now, I may be wrong but I didn't think there was a time limit - it was merely based on how long the bank held paperwork which could cause issues?
Do you think I should write back to them stating this is not correct ( i.e. their allowable timescales) and give them the 14 day notice warning or go straight to the Ombudsman to take my claim further? Or will they respond in the same manner? HSBC almost admit I was mis-sold the PPI but I can't do anything about it now!
This is the first time I've claimed for this PPI and the first rejection so my mind us telling me its worth a stamp to the Ombudsman?
Any advice would be gratefully received - did post this as a thread of its own but unfortunately didn't receive any 'helpful' responses, only scrutiny as to the number of claims I have ongoing so I'd like to point out 3 mortgages and 2 loans :0)LBM 1st May 2012 £53,839

It isn't allowable timescales, but 6 years is the general amount of time banks now keep info for. Your complaint is outside of this 6 years anyway.
The only other thing you can do is send a SAR to see if they have more info, but without paperwork of your own, you're probably going to go nowhere with this complaint.
The ombudsman can't make them find data they don't have.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Not too sure with cards to be honest but I think the interest amounts could be the 8%, ask the bank.
With CC redress they take the card back to zero balance to calculate the redress, any month that the card had a credit balance, the 8% is not given so this may be the case here, the only way to be sure is to ask the bank.0 -

I know you will not be using a claims company but they will not get the data either if you think you may take this route, you give all the details to the claims co and they post the claim off.0 -
I don't think HSBC will still have the data for this from 12 years ago, as you have no paperwork either then this is a non starter.

I do have all the paperwork - I sent them copies with my claim. Thankfully my Husband keeps documents like this and we came across them when we moved in July - hence why we've just submitted the claims.
So - I have the paperwork which clearly shows I have paid PPI when I didn't ask for it and Martin states 'if its longer than 12 years you can still claim but it may be a little more difficult'.LBM 1st May 2012 £53,839

Hi all!
A veteran to the website but new to the forum - so hello to everyone!
Was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on this PPI stuff:
About three years ago I was trying to sort out finance to buy a boat, I got rejected so went to my bank (Nationwide) to find out why. They cited a mark on my credit history, but said they could run an application for a personal loan there and then. I agreed, and began the process.
Before going through the loan application, the sales person I was with was saying that if I had a payment cover / insurance in case of ill health, it would help the application, he was particularly pushy given my situation, and despite me saying I had something similar at work, we went through that and set up the direct debit for this 'Term Assurance'. The cover is through Legal&General.
We then proceeded with the loan application but I was rejected - because of that black mark from 5 years previous.
A few months later I got accepted for a loan from Nationwide.
But, this is my ignorance more than anything, have continued paying this term assurance.
My questions are.....
Does this count as PPI?
Do I have a claim for being missold??
Any help/info/advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
