I applied online with Nationwide and they said I had no PPI and could I help them find any on my accounts!

I went online again to just have another go and today have received a letter saying I had it on a Credit Card.

I'm just filling in the questionnaire and the question is:

How long had you been working there, at the time you took out the insurance?

I don't know this answer as I don't know when the PPI was added to the card.

It could be when I was 18 and got the card and that would of been two years into employment or it may of been about 5 years?

Any advice what I should put as it's mandatory and I'm just thinking if I put 2 years then they may be looking to say I was at risk with only being at my workplace for 2 years.

Or am I looking to far into this! The reality is I have no idea how long it was!

    Hi there

Do you have any monthly statements by any chance?
Maybe curriculum Vitae (CV) would help ;)

If not you could optionally request for the paperwork from the bank/business under a subject access request (SAR), but there is a fee charge of £10 cheque or postal order for this request.
They have up to 40 calendar days to comply to provide you with the information on the account, and it may possibly include details of your employment status at the time and when the account was sold to you. "just possible".

If you want to do this, there is a SAR letter template below you can use, (remember this is optional).

    Hope this helps, good luck.

    Thanks Di,

I shredded all my old statements years and years ago :(

I have access online but don't think it goes back that far.

With the following questions they are just looking to see if I was protected within work by asking what sick pay would I get etc.

Just unsure would it harm my chances if I just guessed the date on this initial questionnaire.

    Next questions are:

What pay would you have received from your employer?*

Pay details (e.g. full pay, 50% pay)

For how long would you have been paid?*

    Format: Years and Months

Did you have any other means of making repayments if you were unable to work through sickness, accident or unemployment?*
    Yes No
For example - this may include savings, other insurance policies, or relying on a relative or friend

At the time you took out the insurance did you have any health problems or were you registered as disabled? *
    Yes No

Is this a sole or joint claim?*
  • Has anyone else been in the situation with Lloyds TSB of when you tried to cancel PPI they insist on a disclaimer being signed to confirm no further action would be taken against them? Is this legal? I had tried to cancel the policy years ago both by phone and in writing on behalf of my son who wasn't well but they kept taking money when he used the card. This went on for years. We could no longer meet the payments and that was thir response.

If you were mis sold the PPI then make a claim, if you just cancel the PPI and sign the disclaimer, you cannot then put a claim in for the mis sell.
  • Hiya

I have got a complaint in with Capital One and was firstly advised by them that it would take 8 weeks which was okay with me then nearing the end of the 8 weeks they asked for a further 4 weeks so yet again I waited but heard nothing so I thought I would call them up. They said they would get a manager to call me back.

I am now in week 15 of my complaint and they have said that they think they need a further 4 weeks from this week.

I don't know whether to go to the Ombudsman now cos my complaint doesn't seem to be moving but I am also unsure if the fact that they have not made any decision despite having my complaint for a long time means that my complaint probably wont get upheld.

Anyone have any thoughts about the best course of action to take?

    Thank you

There are delays because of complaint volume. If you go to the FOS you will be looking at a further 12-18 month delay and you remove the chance of getting lucky. Many PPI complaints get auto paid out. That will go away if you refer to the FOS. Wait for Cap One. If you want to complain about the delay then blame it on all the fraudulent complaints being put in. They are flooding the system (half of complaints dont even have PPI).

My husband was turned down for all his TSB loans from 1983 -1999. I emailed the ceo of the company and had each and everyone upheld with an email. Once they upheld one i emailed after each one and it was paid straight away. Even the credit card that was turned down after I put in a claim wasn't upheld as it didnt have PPI on it but the email to the ceo sent me £100 for the inconvinience of the rejection letter. I had nothing but two loan numbers which were xxxxxxxx03 and xxxxxxxxx04 so i put in a claim for xxxxxxxxx01 and xxxxxxxxx02 and all were upheld.
    Good luck worth a try

How did you obtain the loan numbers?

I just sent one to first Direct and they said they can't find me without more info... They then ended the letter stating the matter is now closed. Thought that was quite rude!
  • Claims have been rejected from Lloyds and Santander now on products sold when I was a student and not working and didnt even realise I had the products!
Is this just standard tactics? Do I write to them again or go straight to the FSA Omudsman?

There are no standard tactics. You say you didnt realise you had PPI. Can you prove that? Was it loan or credit card? if credit card, then how many months have you paid the PPI? (short periods makes your complaint credible as most people will complain within a short period seeing a transaction they didnt agree. Long periods make you less credible and needing evidence to support your allegation). How did you buy the insurance? Did you have a job in addition to being a student?
