    Thanks very much Cappo!

With regards to potential interest that may have accrued on the PPI, would that be calculated on the length of the life of the loan or on the length of time that I have been deprived of the money (ie. up until now)?

Thanks again one and all - you provide us all with such a helpful service!

Hi, and this one too please..... :)
  • Hi All,

Have been thinking of investigating potential PPI claims and now ready to take the plunge after reading various help guides and responses on here.

I took out a Barclaycard credit card in 1996 for which I paid PPI until mid 2007. I have no original documentation and only statements from approx 2003.

Can only assume that was advised to take out PPI when originally took out the credit card, sou would appreciate if anybody could advise whether worth pursuing a claim with Barclaycard.

    Many Thanks
  • You have to be honest in your complaint and the Bank will investigate accordingly.
However, what is the basis of your complaint? It can't simply be that your relatives had PPI, there have to be valid and verifiable mis-selling reasons.

Thanks, sure you are correct. The basis is that they speak very little english and they had their own businesses at the time so do not think that the PPI was even valid for them so I am concerned that they were missold however as they cannot remember how the cards were taken out I do not know whether a complaint would be valid hence I have been trying to get clarification and the paperwork from the providers etc. They cannot remember anyone discussing the insurance terms and exclusions with them however as they cannot remember whether the card was taken in person, on the phone, or by post its difficult.

So I assume that if we tick the can't remember boxes and state that they were self employed and not advised of the terms and exclusions of the insurance the providers will have to investigate accordingly?

  • Hi

I'm new to the forum so firstly, hi!!

I recently contacted HSBC to ask for copies of loan agreements as I know I've had a least one loan with PPI on it but don't have any documents as the loans have closed now.

I didn't give the reason I needed the documents but when I received a reply back from HSBC they had retitled my message to 'PPI' so I assumed they knew why I needed them and were processing my claim. Also they advised that for this type of claim they're allowed 8 weeks to respond - further convincing me they were just going ahead and processing it.

Anyway, today I get a letter from them apologising for the delay but stating they cannot find the documents I've requested but at the same time they have managed to provide sort code and account numbers for all loans I've held with them??

Two questions: 1. If they've advised me of loan account numbers (more than I remember taking out actually, I recall maybe 3 loans but they list 5 loan account numbers), why don't they have documents?

    2. They state I don't need loan documentation to proceed with my claim but won't they want dates etc?

    What is my next step?

    thanks in advance

sonj_11 You could give them a ring and tell them you wanted to know how the PPI was added - was it front loaded or a seperate payment.

I cannot see how they can already be dealing with your complaint as you have given no reason for mis sell.

All you need to make a complaint is account number and a strong reason for mis sell. Front loaded being the most upheld by FOS
  • Hi there I have decided to put in a claim after looking into the charges on my debenhams account. The account was opened in 1995 The gold card was originally with GE Money and now with Santander. I rang Santander and asked them for my original agreement which I have received today. The original form asks me to tick The box if I require ppi which is not ticked the box ticked do not require is not ticked either over the writing is hand written send package. Which I know I never received. I didn't.t know I had this insurance if I had I would have claimed when I was off for 4 months in 2003 . I have it appears being paying since i opened the account in1995 thats 17 years......my question is do I have a good case for a refund.

Hi all, i have recently sent a claim
Form for ppi to clydesdale( the form was just one printed online) i waited 8 weeks but last saturday got a letter saying they were offering me £3777.44 for an old loan i had 11 years ago so glad i sent it now. Does anyone know how long you wait for the money after signing and sending acceptance letter??? Also how do i know if ive paid ppi on old loans, credit cards & finance if ive paid them off and do not have any paperwork?? X

    Hi

We are waiting for a reply from the Yorkshire bank Which I believe has links with the Clydesdale bank?

Could you advise if you had paperwork to support your complaint? Ours too was from 11 years ago and the reasons for our complaint are the fact the ppi was front loaded and not required?

Could you let us know if you read this , I'm keen to know whether you had paperwork! Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Nesbit i know what your saying and your right the ppi is now useless to you anyway, my understanding is though that the interest would be yours which might still come to a few quid and yes the main part of any redress would go to help settle your payment arrangement, it would come off your debt though and bring it down which could'nt be a bad thing.

Thank you so much for this advice as I have a similar query. Yesterday morning received a letter from HSBC who have agreed that the PPI on the loans I had with them previously and currently, were missold. The upshot is tht they have offered to refund me £10,100.00.

I have a managed loan repayment plan with them and have been wondering if HSBC are entitled to use that money towards offsetting the current loan I have with them. I will be upset if they do as the amount offered would pay off in full a loan I have with another bank, which would then free up more money to make larger loan repayments to HSBC.

Is there no way at all that I coud nominate another account for the PPI refund to be paid in??

No, not unless it's another HSBC loan, I'm afraid.
(By the way, the advice you replied to was posted last February)
  • Hi

I am in the process of pulling together all the info for my claim. My question is who do I send the letter to?

The loan is with First Plus but I originally applied via Debt Busters. So
do I write to First Plus or Debt Busters?

Hope somebody can help as it is a big claim! I have had the loan coming up for 6 years now. The original loan was £90,000 and I have been paying approximately £1,000 per month. I had a settlement figure the other day of £107,000 I was gob smacked that it was actually more than we borrowed after paying approx. £60,000!
