On the subject of ringing them - did you find that the numbers they quoted in their original offer letter ring a few times, give you some recorded information and then unaccountably cut you off?
This is well documented on the forum. The Regulated Sales Complaints team cannot even be telephoned internally by HSBC branch staff apparently!
I was told four months ago that the "technical difficulties" with their telephone system had been "escalated ". It doesn't surprise me to learn that nothing has changed.
Like you, I think it's deliberate.
  • That's good you didn't need to pay it Gemster1982 that's allot of money!
  • Hi guys,

Been hearing so much about all the ppi refunds and i wanted to ask a couple ov questions before i tried.
Firstly, how far back can you claim the refunds for loans and credit cards?
Secondly, me and my partner have had a few loans and such over the years, but we haven't still got the details for them, such as account nos, dates and whether we had ppi.
Can we still proceed with this, if so, where do we start?????

Hi, I know exactly what you mean - I've now been waiting 8 weeks and also have a VERY nervous Postie! I did ring them once to make sure they had received the statements but haven't rung since then. On the subject of ringing them - did you find that the numbers they quoted in their original offer letter ring a few times, give you some recorded information and then unaccountably cut you off? I can't say it's that surprising for HSBC - their customer service has been non-existent for quite some time. Interesting that it hasn't occurred to them that the additional frustration caused by this to people who are already making a complaint about them might lead people to take their business elsewhere.....Oh, no, hang on, that might require some foresight!

My eight weeks from their most recent letter is up this week, wonder what if anything I will hear next? Sounds like you got through to them at some stage - do you actually have a number where you can reach them? If so, would be really grateful if you shared it with us all!!

I think the banks need to set aside some money for compensating traumatised postmen/women!!!!

hi, have just received this back from tesco bank re my ppi claim on credid card and i wander whats the best way to go now any advise would be useful I have been able to confirm that you applied for your credit card by filling out a postal application form.
The application form that you would have completed gave you the option to add Payment Protection lnsuranee to your Credit Card by ticking a box to include your policy. This confirmed you wished to add the policy to your card. I can confirm this option was not preselected and you were able to proceed without the cover if you did not wish to include it on your account. A decision was made by you to include the policy.
i cant remember ticking any box and they have not sent proof that i did.
it then went on to say that they feel i was provided with sufficient information(included in the terms and conditions)to make an informed choice so based on there findings they have refused my application and will not refund premiums.

    thanks
Write back to them and reject the reasons they gave for not upholding, show that you could pay this card back so had no need of the PPI,good sick pay, savings life insurance etc, tell them also that they cannot put that because they gave you the t&c this does not constitute a "proper sale " of the PPI.

I found that I had PPI through HFC bank for a DFS sofa, which had been ticked by the salesperson - I have personal illness and accident cover already so I did not need the PPI on this loan
If you did pay the PPI then put a claim into DFS, it is possible even though PPI is on the agreement, this would not have come into force until after the interest free period, if you paid the suite after this time the PPI would have kicked in but you settled the loan at the one year point.

Having said that, check and see if you did pay this.
  • Hi

i took out 2 loans with PPI through Lloys in around 1998 / 99. I have no paperwork and can't remember the full details. I know any claim is a long shot but does anyone know if I have any chance?

I would say there is very little chance, call the bank see if they have any of the details, and failing that ask for a SAR costs £10 template on here. But banks are only required to keep details for 6 years. So :( I think.
