Hi all, I've been searching the site but there's so much stuff on PPI I can't find what I'm looking for, which relates to my circumstances.
Being Self emp, i've always refused PPI, and have never knowingly had it. Is it true that credit card companies have secretly been charging for this? There's absolutely no indication whatsoever on my statements that there is any other charge than 'regular' interest. Barclaycard, Citibank, and MBNA are the main cards that i'v had on-going balances with over the years (more than 10 years), quite often they would have been interest free or low interest deals as part and parcel or surfing between cards via balance transfers.
I just can't find anything that supports an indication of me having been paying any sort of PPI, so don't know if i've been charged it unknowingly. Pretty sure I would have spotted it in my original T & C's when taking out the cards all those years ago if they were adding it.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hiya,

I had a credit card with MBNA from 2000-2007. I asked for my credit agreement and I clearly ticked the "PPI -No" box. I never ticked the boxes as I didn't want to pay extra as I had cover elsewhere.

I phoned after I received the credit agreement to make sure I hadn't paid it and MBNA informed me I had paid it for 7 years. As I paid off the card 5 years ago I have no statements to check. I would never have agreed to it on a cold call either. At the time I had numerous loans / credit cards so didn't tend to check my statements (doh!)

I put in a claim 4 weeks ago and phoned yesterday to be told my claim had been upheld and a letter has been posted with an offer :j

So, even if you think you tick no to PPI, it's best to double check!!!

Hi all I had 2 letters from lloyds tsb rejected as I was too vague on the I itial letter, I had 28 days to inform them of any further info. I did this confirming my life insurance policies, employee benefits (full), bupa, pressure of sale inc loan / cc guarantee if I took out the loan /cc. Anyway it's been 2 weeks now and I'm getting nervous. How long should I wait and has anyone heard of lloyds changing their mind or will I have to go to fos? Wish I'd sent off the template now but was o ly introduced to this site after I'd sent it. Many thanks

Hi, i left some posts on here couple of months ago regarding my ppi that lloyds black horse had turned down.... i was told on here from 3 experts that i had no chance of getting my ppi as it was sold me through a broker, well just to let you know that ive fighted it and looked into every glitch lloyds b/h sent me in all there letters..... im glad to say they have now overturned there decision and are now sending me £2,400.... HAPPY-DAYS!! so people out there who have any concerns about claiming for there ppi dont be put off by so called experienced people telling you have no chance, fight it and look into every single detail of the agreement, I wish you all the best... paul

I thought as much Amersall, thanks for that. I had a cold call from a PPI firm that said that the credit card co's *hid* this sort of monthly cost and that I wouldn't have known that I'd had it, thought it was a porkie lol
    Thanks again.

Following up from Jandk and cappos replies (thanks guys) do you think that it's worth getting my application for a card form (is this the credit agreement?) so that I can check this supposed box that needs ticking/unticking?
Would they (MBNA/B'Card, et al) tell me truthfully over the phone if I asked for this info?
Seriously i've had a barclaycard credit card since I was 18, and i'm 52 now, i'm pretty sure that I would have spotted a monthly charge that was extraeneous to 'regular' interest? Or is it possible that it was never listed as a charge? (and just included within the interest rate I mean)
    Thanks again

    Hiya,

MBNA were truthful with me. All I did initially was send £1 off for my T&C and they sent me a copy of my original credit agreement where it's plainly clear I ticked the "no" box. To be honest with you, I had so many cards / loans at that point I paid the minimum by direct debit so I hardly even opened my statements.

I knew I'd ticked no on all my cards, but had to agree to it for one loan so must admit I hadn't looked at it on my statements - I probably thought it was part of the normal interest I was paying.

When my credit agreement came 4 weeks ago I wasn't surprised to see the box was ticked for no, and most people would've left it there. But after reading someone else's thread on here about being charged PPI when they'd ticked the no box, I phoned MBNA's freephone number to double check. I couldn't believe it when the girl said I'd paid it from 2000 till 2007 (when I paid my card off). She told me to fill in a FOS questionnaire and send it in asap to put a claim in.

In my experience, MBNA were really helpful and wouldn't lie to you - after all, their lines are recorded so it's worth a phone call to double check.

    Good luck :)

  • Hi there
This is my very first post so bear with me.
In October 2004 I took out a secured loan of £42000 with Paragon which included PPI (total cost approximately £7500). This was despite telling the person on the phone that I have a full time job with excellent sickness, redundancy & 'death in service' packages.
I have subsequently learnt that the PPI only covered the first 5 years of the loan (although i do have a 'cashback' certificate which will refund my payments at the end of the loan period)
I contacted Paragon to tell them I was not happy with the PPI charges & that I am 'locked in' to this deal for another 27 months - I can't claim the PPi back until October 2014.

They have writtren back to me saying that the loan was issued via a broker so is nothing to do with them. They gave me the 'last known addressog Central Capital Limited & suggested I contact this company.

On all the paperwork it is Paragon's name and I spoke to a contact at Paragon a few weks ago he told me that it will be Paragon who pay back the 'cashback' at the end of the loan.

Do I now contact Central Capital or send my complaint about Paragon to the FOS?

Any held / advice much appreciated.

You can only make a mis-selling complaint to the organisation that sold you the policy, not the provider of it. So you need to complain to Central Capital Ltd, as your letter explains.
You can't complain at all about the terms of the PPI being such that you can't claim it back until 2014, I'm afraid. However, if your mis-selling complaint is upheld you'll be able to cancel the remaining PPI without penalty.
You also can't complain to FOS about Paragon because they have only told you that your complaint shouldn't be directed at them. You can only approach FOS if you've received a full and final response from the correct recipient of your complaint.
