  • Last year I was stupid and paid £300 upfront to a company that looked reputable-were on MOJ site etc. Only when I received their envelope to return documentation, alarm bells started to ring as it looked so unprofessional. I checked on this website and legal beagles, and needless to say I didn't send them anything.

Yesterday, I was contacted by We claim you gain. They take 25% of the final settlement which they said is usually covered by interest etc. and they also send an advisor to your home.
I know that you an do this on your own, but I really can't. I wrote to HSBC asking for information needed about a loan I took out in 2001, and they wrote back and said that they no longer have the records. I have a credit expert account, but that doesn't go back far enough.
I've had an account with them before, so in theory the info should be able to be retraced. I also took out a mortgage with HSBC at the same time. I've had a couple of loans by them since then. I remortgaged using platform at one point, I've had loans from tesco and I had a credit card from the bank of Scotland.
I have a feeling that there might be quite a bit of PPI out there! I tend to juggle my finances and move things about a bit-understatement I know:rotfl:

Are We claim you gain legit? I can live with 25% if it means they do all the work. I've got MS, and my memory is quite badly affected because of it. I found quite a bit of paperwork, but there's more somewhere...no idea.

    Hello there.

I’ve been stalking this forum for a while now, and the fantastic advice I’ve read gave me the confidence to make my own PPI claims (4 in total) a few weeks ago. My first response has arrived and it’s a flat rejection, so I’m hoping that some of you excellent people can advise me further.

It’s Capital One’s CC PPI. I took it out in 2001 with the card and thought nothing of it until recently. I made my complaint on the basis that I had all of: 6 months’ full, 6 months’ half salary sickness absence; at least 6 months’ salary in redundancy; more than 2-times’ salary death in service benefit. Reading on this thread, I get the impression that this is one of the stronger reasons for success. The rejection letter has taken 4 weeks of the 8, and it looks like a fairly standard effort – “applied purely on your request”; “no representative involved”; “30-day cooling off period”; “full policy document provided”, etc. Then there’s the crucial bit – “you checked the box”. They sent a copy of the application form and, sure enough, there’s the tick.

From reading the excellent advice given here, am I right to think that ticking the box is not necessarily the end of the matter? Surely it doesn’t negate the fact that they signed me up to a PPI scheme that I could never claim on because of the workplace benefits I already had? Isn’t that the definition of a mis-sell? Is that a fair summary? I realise that I have the option to go to the FSO, but I rather avoid that given the massive waiting time involved. I’d prefer to respond to Capital One with a clear argument (although I did explain this in the original complaint proforma and they have described this as their “final response”. I’m a bit worried now because I thought I had a strong case, and I’m concerned that my other complaints might go the same way.

Thank you very much for reading.

They don't. You fill in the forms yourself. They won't research your 2001 loan, you have to provide all information.

The details for this Loan may have been destroyed due to the year, if the bank cannot find this Loan then you won't either.
With a claims co you have to take into account the Vat on top of any fee that charge, you do all the chasing of Loan account numbers etc, they just post off the claim for you to the banks, do you have any one who could look through your paperwork and post on here what Loans and Cards you have details for and banks you do not have details for?.

We can help you for free, you have to find the info anyway, so let us help you with what you have.

Everything you need to help you is on here and there is always someone who can answer your questions and help you. This place is full of people, myself included, who never thought they could do it but have given it a go and got results. If you think there's a lot of PPI out there then that 25% plus VAT is potentially a very large sum - save it for yourself.

I am more than happy with my win but I needed the email for something else other than ppi relating to my parents.

However, thought I would slip the old ppi in there too whilst I was giving it to him and said it was disgusting that banks insist on taking a full 8 weeks to respond and then drag the cheques out for 28+ days even though the money is rightfully ours. Especially as I've been a halifax customer since I was about 13 years old. Can't see why they can't just transfer it into our account by 2 hour faster payment.
Guess what....within the hour when the guy from customer relations phoned me to speak about the email, he said I'd misunderstood the 28 days and a cheque had been issued yesterday 2nd class and to wait 5 days. If I don't receive it by then I have his direct number and name...happy days :rotfl:
We'll see....2nd class takes 3 working days and they include Saturday so if they sent it yesterday then it should arrive by Sat but I bet it doesn't. :A

    Hi
I am hoping you fantastic people can help me out i am looking to claim back ppi, i had a loan from a company called (at the time) Capital Bank (not to be confused with Capital one) this is 13/14 years ago I had a £1000 loan and paid back £2600!! I was young and very stupid, i had the gold ppi cover as i was advised to do.
The company is no longer in existence I believe how do I found out who took over of if the company has been renamed?. I have no paper work at all as this was so long ago, I just dont know where to start but dont want to not do anything at all as I believe surely I should be due something back. Thank you so much for any help or advice that can be offered.

I also did have PPI I believe for a settee I purchased from DFS years ago (which I have proof of the payment to Black Horse for) I am not sure if this is relevant, where should I start?, I feel if I just phone and ask they may say they have no record or just say there was no ppi thank you.. xxxx
