PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Hello there
Personally going by lots of other experiences on here and there - with people using claims companies have unfortunately had more hassle than they would if they did this themselves, it's less paperwork involved (by doing this yourself), in my opinion going by other's experiences, quicker than what the claims companies make out and you get to keep all the refund (by doing this yourself).
It's simply only the fact of completing a reclaim questionnaire with the reasons for reclaiming, keep a copy and send to the one's who sold the policy.
You do not actually have to have the paperwork a such as long as you have the account numbers and know you were paying for ppi and mis sold.
Many on here have been successful, and more so without a claims company.
The link to the reclaim questionnaire is on step 3 below, do not worry about the prior steps, as long as you have the account number and reasons.
Hope this helps and hopefully all will be resolved and refunded soon, good luck.

I would just like to add, that by doing this yourself, you should receive a confirmation letter from the business by a week or 2 at most, they will then clarify they have 8 weeks to give you a final decision as from the date you sent the reclaim questionnaire complaint.
This is the quickest way and you do not require the calculations on the complaint form either, as this is worked out and they send you a detailed breakdown, or you can request for this.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. The problem is I don't think I have all the facts, I have the original 2 loan agreements (both have the same loan account number) but I think there must've been yet another later one. My Father can't recall taking them out let alone being mis-sold the PPI. Is it mis-sold if he was retired from work? I can't see why he would've needed it, it wasn't on the original loan only on the updated second one. Can he request the bank send him details of all loans he's had. I'm also confused as to why he took out a second loan anyway which seems to have just transferred the balance from the first, only now he would pay much more over a longer period and with added PPI! I think TSB took advantage of a vulnerable customer!0

Hi, can anyone actually recomment a PPI claim company as I believe I won't be able to claim myself due to it being too complicated. I vaguely remember my Father showing me a bank statement several years ago in which he was paying off a loan, his balance wasn't going down so I made him go into the bank. He came back and said he didn't understand any of it and he only owed about £100 so he paid it off. I have searched and found two loan agreements, one dated 1997 for 48 months with no PPI and another dated 1999 for 60 months with PPI added (this loan appears to replace the first loan (repay existing liability). Now that loan should've been paid off by 2004, yet as mentioned he showed me a statement where he was still paying a loan not many years ago. Unfortunately my Father can't even remember taking any of the loans (he's now 76) and doesn't have a clue what he was paying and when! I can't find any other loan agreements/statements amongst his papers. Would a company specializing in PPI be able to recover the details from the bank and check if he did actually have yet another loan? Can he claim for the 1999 loan. I can't see why he needed PPI (£994 worth) if he was retired. Any help appreciated.

Hi november if your dad was sold ppi when he was retired then he could'nt claim on the biggest part of the ppi which is unemployment cover as he was effectively unemployed when it was sold to him use the fos reclaim form on the link and put a claim in, if you have proof of the ppi, go for it.

Hi there
Your welcome
Yes, you can call into the branch and ask them for details of other loans, which they should enclose to you.
Actually another thing I am going to mention, once you start making a reclaim/complaint on one, if there are other loan accounts with ppi, they should now automatically look into them too. (although sometimes it's best to bring this up when complaining anyway, either on a separate application/complaint, or the same one if the reasons were the same), remember just to enclose the loan account numbers that apply.
Yes there is a good reason there, if your dad was retired at the time of taking out the loan, then the policy is worthless to him, so this needs to be said on the complaint form, he was basically deprived of his money with them selling him the ppi - as he would not have been able to use it anyway.
So either call into the local branch, or even email them, but I think your dad would have to sign the email for this request.

I would also check the checklist, as other reasons may also apply, but even so with being retired it a good reason to make a complaint/reclaim and I'm sure they will resolve at first instance with this one.

Yes, Cappo has suggested the most straightforward course of action here. If there is a further consolidation loan linked to the one with PPI then the Bank will definitely consider it as part of your complaint.
When filling in the form, it won't be necessary to detail every aspect of the sale, as the only salient point is that your Dad could never have claimed on the policy. Fill it in very minimally, only emphasise that your Dad was retired for at least some years of the loan term.
Just one question, though. In 1999 your Dad was 63, so are you sure he had definitely retired when it was sold to him?
It's prudent to look for other reasons for complaint too. Was the PPI "front loaded" onto the loan so that your Dad paid a single monthly payment for both the loan and the policy together? If so, definitely include this in your questionnaire.0 -
You may have a problem here due to the year.
If you have reasons for mis sell you could put claims in to the dealers and see what they come back with, it is possible the dealers are no longer around and if they are they could tell you they were regulated at the time of the sale.
Thanks for responding Amersall
I didn't think there would be much chance with these very old dusty documents0 -
Hi,
I am new here and was judt wondering if anyone can help me. I sent a letter off to egg a couple of weeks ago regarding reclaiming ppi I had paid on a credit card. I enclosed with the letter the ppi questionnaire as advised on this site. I received a reply from them this morning saying that they will look into my complaint and could I please fill in a ppi questionnaire?! Perhaps this is just a generic response, I am unsure of my next move. Can someone please advise... How long do they have to respond? Do I have to fill the form out again etc..
Many thanks0 -

The Bank has eight weeks to respond to your concerns, after which you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Do remember that all the Banks are snowed under at the moment with PPI complaints.0 -
Thanks very much moneyineptitude. So I think I will just ignore their request for the duplicate information. I had no other products with them.
Also, I am unsure whether I paid ppi on another credit card.. The card was a mint card. Can someone please advise on how I would go about finding out whether I did. Sorry if this has already been answered I don't use forums usually and there is so much info here :-)
Many thanks0
