  • Can anyone help me please - totally confused at the moment with regards to whether I can claim or not. I had two bank loans with Abbey National dating back to 1998 and 2002. Obviously they've been long paid off and I have no paperwork. I'm pretty certain I had PPI on them. I've completed the template letter on this site requesting copies of said paperwork, but would they really hold onto something from that long ago? I've seen a number of people claiming from over 20 years ago, don't really want to go down the route of a company chasing it up for it if I can do it myself - any help greatly appreciated :D

If neither you nor the Bank have any documentary record of this old finance then any complaint is over before it's begun.

A claim company can do nothing you cannot do yourself..

Claims firms use the exact same process you use, they send generic template letters that can harm your case alleging things that can easily be disproved and have to work on the information you provide, they cannot do anything special.

If the account was still active when Abbey were bought in 2004, Santander might still have the records but if they were paid off before, there is a chance they won't have brought the data over.

If neither you nor they have any records you don't have a complaint and a CMC won't change that fact. How would you prove you were miss-sold so long after the event?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Depends on the product and type of policy, if it’s was a credit card then yes PPI would be clearly itemised on your statements.

I am planning on sorting out my mother-in-law's PPI complaints before the deadline expires, and I have a couple of questions I haven't been able to find the answer to.

    (1) Is it possible to make a PPI complaint on behalf of someone else by, for example, sending a letter of authority. I understand letters of authorities are used when reclaiming via CMCs, but I am not sure whether it is possible for individuals to do the same thing. If so, is there a template Letter of Authority I could use?

    (2) I understand that a PPI complaint has to be submitted (but not necessarily resolved) by the deadline on 29 August 2019. How detailed does the complaint need to be? I would like to know if it is possible to send a basic complaint to beat the deadline, stating that further details of the complaint will be provided in due course.

    Thanks!

    1) Yes, or just type it all up and she signs it then gives them authority for them to speak to you though to be honest it seems a bit long winded as she'll need to provide complaint reasons and details to them e.g. you can't say she was told she had to have it if you were not present at the sale

    2) So long as the complaint is registered it won't matter. You can submit a complaint tomorrow and then deal with the admin side of things

With regards to your second point, once you make any sort of complaint they will consider the points that you raise at that time - you can’t simply make a complaint and then try and make a better complaint at a later stage, you still have plenty of time just put a competent complaint letter together and submit it.

Why use any third party (even a "free" one)?

Use of Resolver in this circumstance just makes it likely your complaint will be delayed, so just complete the questionnaire and return it via post..
