Latter bit, yes, there is a form R40 to claim tax back. It's nothing to do with your earnings unless you're a 45% taxpayer, everyone on below the HR band gets £1000 tax free and those who pay 40% get £500Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hi, i'm not sure if this is the right forum- I have a ppi claim accepted by MBNA and they sent out a cheque over 30 days ago, it was returned to them without my knowledge and that cheque has been cancelled. I phoned and said they would be sending out another (hopefully)- I now await their response, but can anyone tell me if there is a time bar on that specific situation?
The ppi claim company were meant to chase this up but didn't.0 -

After putting your template letter in the post, that is about all they do.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. If you have any other PPI complaints, be sure to complain directly..0 -
IamI having big problems with the claim guys .After being turned down for ppi I rang Tescos about the plevin case and was told to contact the ombudsman after 15 phone calls to them and tescos I received a refund in June 2018 then in September I received a letter from the claim guys asking for there money.I told them I done all the work and it was nothing to do with them. When made my first calls to the ombudsman and tescos I told them iwas doing it my self
. Do I have to pay the claim guys0 -
Yes. You always had to do all the work.
They just posted your complaint form for you.0 -
Once your complaint was rejected by Tesco, they then had to consider whether Plevin was relevant... this was always going to happen regardless of your calls and was therefore instigated by the Claims Guys when they submitted your complaint (they would’ve also raised Plevin in this complaint) - as such they have fulfilled their contract with you and you now need to pay.
For future reference please don’t utilise a claims company for any further complaints they do very little for their money.0 -

As the Plevin payout was a continuation of the initial complaint, then yes, you have to pay them.
It is only when it is not a continuation that they cant bill (e.g. you complained and were rejected n 2012 and then a plevin payout was made in 2019).
Claims companies do no work beyond sticking your initial complaint template in the post to the same address you would have used if you did it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
