It would only be in your files and memory.

Do you believe the PPI to have been mis sold?

Most mortgages in the uk are bought via advisers, brokers and estate agents. So, if you used one of those, it wouldnt matter who the lender is. They do not use lender PPI products.

Your bank statements. your ex husband. your memory

Mortgages (with add-ons like PPI or life insurance) are largely sold by brokers / IFAs, these were not regulated before 2005 so your complaint would be rejected anyway. If the mortgage was sold directly by a regulated institution like a bank, they would have to look at it but MPPI is a very useful product, still retailed today as it protects your home in the event of losing your income through unemployment or sickness, it's very rarely miss-sold so I wouldn't worry too much, there was very little chance you'd win the complaint

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I am wondering if I can claim PPI on a Credit card that I took out in 1998? I had Disability and Unemployment Insurance with it but can't remember if I was given a choice on taking it out. Also I made a claim on it in 1999 when i was made redundant and I have presumed that because of this, I cannot claim PPi but I am now wondering if that is correct.

You already have claimed on it.

If you mean you now want to complain about it, you will need to give them your complaint reasons.

The amount you claimed will be deducted from any redress, should there be any. It's unlikely records remain after a couple of decades.

Your memory is not grounds for complaint.

You can make a complaint still. However, your complaint reasons are more limited. You cant say you didnt know about it or that you didnt need it or that you were not eligible. The claim on the policy proves otherwise. If your complaint is successful, they deduct the amount they paid out on the claim.

  • I had an unsolicited telephone call in January from a Manchester legal firm (CSE Solutions) re: making a PPI claim. They sold me the usual message of "you'll get thousands of pounds" so I gave them some info about my mortgage from RBS, who insisted that I take life insurance for the duration of the mortgage. CSE Solutions informed me that this was definitely miss-selling and that I was entitled to compensation so I decided to go ahead and gave my details on 25th January 2019. They assured me that it would take between 5-25 days to receive compensation payment and then also said that their cut would be 20%. It is now 10.4.19 and I have still not had any payment. I have emailed and telephoned them several times asking why this is taking so long and they just say that they haven't heard from the bank yet. Is this a scam company (they are registered with Company House)? Do I have any rights to ask them to reduce their percentage cut given the delay? Any advice much appreciated

What were your mis selling complaints for the mortgage?

I doubt there will be any redress forthcoming. At least that means you won't need to pay the claims company for their stamp (unless the contract also agreed for a separate fee).

If you do get redress, their cut will be the cut you promised them.
