How does paying someone a large percentage when there's no need = my loss???

It's ebay brainwashing at work again, they want you to think that ebay is the *only* way to sell online, when in reality it's possibly the worst way to sell online.

And it baffles me how anyone can make any money selling on Amazon given the percentage of turnover they keep.
I didn't say ebay was the only way to sell online - however it is nowhere near the worst place to sell - just shows you don't know what you are doing! I and many people I know are making very healthy profits on ebay, Amazon and own websites. Other people get it - read the post by strapped above.

If you can't work out how to run your business properly then perhaps you are in the wrong game. As I said - your loss! I'm not about to give you a free lesson in online business!!

Not quite his loss, from past posts he wasn't allowed back on Ebay, that was his main gripe!
Ah, I see - it all makes sense now - just another ebay hater!!

To just use Google and not have any alternatives could be very short sighted, no one knows how the future will pan out, Google could quite quickly up their rates and change at a whim, there are no certainties with any of these companies.
I think he was talking more about his own website unless he means Google Adwords. What he doesn't seem to appreciate is that Google results also show listings from Amazon and ebay too!

So let me get this straight, a business that keeps more of it's profits is a badly run company as compared with a business which lets someone else help themselves to the profits?

Funny, innit, how all the most profitable online businesses have their own websites rather than using ebay or amazon....

I fear any lessons you might give me would cost me money, perhaps I'll just keep on making lots of money while you ebay junkies keep working to make ebay rich.

    HTH.

Is this statement from the same person who said Ebay was finished 5 years ago? I'll take my chances. Facebook marketing can actually be far more.

Ebay is a pale shadow of it's former self.

The jury is out as to if Facebook can produce revenue to match it's supposed value.

You'll find a great increase in well known online businesses having shops on ebay recently.
They can't all be doing it wrongly.

    .

That sort of line is trotted out every few months, one day I suppose it will have to be true.

I have been travelling a bit on trains and reading a fair bit recently, a lot of novels now feature oridinary people doing normal things and one of those is selling online. In older books they 'sold online' now they 'ebay'.

I do think one say the whole online selling phenomen will just lose tis appeal, maybe we will have to wait until Europe gets out of this decline. However when that happens I think all companies will show a downturn, and not just ebay.

Oh, just remembered, I was approached about running local classes for selling online safely. The only topic they wanted me to cover was ebay.

Ebay may be different but as you had predicted they were finished 5 years ago and their active customers and sales revenue have all increased in that time then you are hardly a sage in this regard.

No one mentioned Facebook being worth their value, you implied they were doomed as other social media sites have gone in the past.

Just let me know other companies you think are doomed and I'll get my stockbroker to buy shares in them;)

You can't see it and you think you know best so keep on doing what you are doing!

Tesco, Argos to name a couple who are on ebay. But I guess they are just small businesses so don't count!!

    Sigh! Your loss (again)!!
  • Big difference is that in a chip shop you would up the prices to recoup the increase in costs. On Ebay, that doesn't happen. The only thing that happens is your profit margin reduces.

I'm not quite sure how much profit Ebay thinks their business sellers make but its not as much as they think it is.

this makes no sense, ebays costs and 'prices' go up every year just like everyone's does. there's inflation for one thing.

eBay is fine it's just changing to become bigger and more profitable. sadly their big money comes from people looking for high value branded items, not used rubber chickens anymore.

This is very true! Just take a look at their latest TV ad - all the products in the background are high value and high street goods. Ebay is still a great place to buy and sell the more unusual and quirky items but they are no longer promoting it that way. Some of the products I sell can't be purchased in the high street.
