Double Wammy for eBay sellers, eBay prices to rise by at least 10% plus postage going

Nice to see they are finally covering gift cards and items equivalent to cash from April.
Maybe bad news for sellers (probably only the dodgey ones) - but finally some common sense from Ebay. If they allow it on Ebay - it should be covered.0 -
I didn't say it was trivial - I was calling the OP out because he said it was a 10% rise whereas in fact it is only a 1% rise. And if you are basing your business on a 'bonus' that could be taken away from you, as you may experience soon, then its not a great business model.Notmyrealname wrote: »The 2% increase in the FVF alone for business sellers in the technology category adds for me about £5 in costs per laptop which I can't recoup. That for me is at least an extra £50 per week or £2600 a year.
I'm glad you can afford to think of such sums as trivial.0 -
costs and prices will go up every year. i wish a bag of chips still cost 70p but it's not 1998 anymore.0

The problem is though, if you give someone something, then take it away again, they will always remember having it, not a time before they had it.
For example when they limited the 99p free listings for private sellers, there were huge protests - even though they had only been in place since early 2009 and I've been selling on and off as a private seller since 2004. But since it had become, apparently, an entitlement, there were furious protests."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Big difference is that in a chip shop you would up the prices to recoup the increase in costs. On Ebay, that doesn't happen. The only thing that happens is your profit margin reduces.
I'm not quite sure how much profit Ebay thinks their business sellers make but its not as much as they think it is.0 -

I'm not complaining about the bonus. I'm complaining about the 66% increase in FVF in the tech categories for business sellers.0 -
I made no direct comment on that particular change other than to touch on the fact that it was happening...Notmyrealname wrote: »I'm not complaining about the bonus. And I believe the fees in that category are going back up to what they used to be before being reduced to 3% - what did you do when they were 5% before?0 -
Not really their concern how other people run their businesses. Like most issues to do with inflation, costs go up all over the place, whether or not other people have knock-on issues with it does not matter to them.Notmyrealname wrote: »Big difference is that in a chip shop you would up the prices to recoup the increase in costs. For example I complain to myself when the local bus service puts up their fares, but I am under no illusion that the price of petrol continues to sky-rocket. I have to budget for it and if it makes it prohibitive to go into town too often that's my problem, not the bus company's.
If it is no longer profitable to run your business, then either sell up, close up, or find a way to ease the pressure, including putting prices up.
eBay are not a charitable foundation and do not owe other people a living."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Buy stock for about 25% less than it is now and I was getting around 10% more on average per machine. Now the profit per machine isn't even an hours labour charge.0 -
If you want to get from A to B and B is too far to walk and you don't drive you have no option than to go by bus and pay what they charge. If it is no longer profitable to run your business, then either sell up, close up, or find a way to ease the pressure, including putting prices up.
Only problem is that people won't pay more on Ebay. In fact they're paying a whole lot less. 99.9% of stuff sold on Ebay people can live without so if they can't get it for what they want they'll just not bother. I'm already one of the people in the top end of prices for the laptops I sell. If you're amongst the most expensive, how can you put your prices up?0
