How is it weird? If it helps those through the grieving process then what is the problem?
I don't believe in Rainbow Bridge for pets (I doubt anyone does), nor have I mentioned Rainbow Bridge in any of my posts BUT I wouldn't come on here taking the 'P' out of those who want to have nice thoughts of their beloved pets running free - now that is just weird and heartless.
Fwiw, imo it is not taking the p to start a thread with an explicit warning so that people who might be hurt can not open it, but it would be to say somehting on a thread where it was used or could be used.
The rb thing makes me more sad when i am greiving and i find it far from helpful, yet there is no way to say it without causing offense to peoe who are trying to be kind. To be able to say it here in this thread is almost theraputic!0 -
Well I think it's sweet and comforting to think we will see our beloved lost pets again one day. I don't know if there's an afterlife but it gets me through to think there is.
And if indeed there is, I'd love all my dogs to be there too.
When there's so much evil and hatred in this sad old world, just sometimes it's reassuring to think of a better place awaiting us somewhere.0 -

I agree with you. Every single time I read that bridge thing I am in tears, I have wet eyes just reading purple.sarah's post above. I usually try to skip over those posts without reading them.
I am seriously wussy and I already know that if anyone was to post that when my mutt dies, it will make me much sadder. It's like listening to sad songs when you and a boyfriend break up. It makes you worse. :undecided
However I could never say anything for fear of offending the person who posted it, clearly they care and are showing a kindness and support.
I believe we will meet up again, but the bridge thing just makes me sad.

Regardless of the availability of food, I just hope there's a separate enclosure for rabbits.0

I actually love the lyrics of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song 'Death of a Martian' about Flea's dog. I can't listen to it without crying though, which ruins it somewhat...
Kipling for me, his "The Power of the Dog" poem.
Should be read by anyone daft enough to take on an animal with a lifespan so much shorter than their own. Before we then go on and do it regardless. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I don't believe in the afterlife, or heaven, or in the Rainbow Bridge, but I think it's nice that people care enough to make a post like that when someone has lost their pet. I think a few people posted it when my own cat died, and although I don't really believe in it, it still made me cry (not in a bad way as crying is a release).
My mum (& both of my sisters for that matter) go to clairvoyants and although I believe they are shysters and a waste of money, my mum seems to find it comforting to be told that her dad is her guardian angel, so I don't have the heart to tell her that in my opinion the woman is making it up!0 -
Grieving is a very personal thing. I lost my dog recently and someone gave me this poem in a card. I thought the imagery was very sweet. At a time when you would love nothing more than to see your beloved pet, the idea that they are running around pain free and happy is a nice one. I can see it would not be to everyone's taste, but it is pretty harmless.0

But everyone else - come on now, PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this garbage is ridiculous for grown adults to go on about!
I've lost pets. It's very sad. I've genuinely grieved for them. I don't make up imaginary my little pony-esque care bear yellow brick road weirdness to deal with it. I assume it's some peculiar American thing we've caught in the last few years.
Do you think people really believe in this?
If they do - HOW can they?
If they don't - why go on about it? It's just WEIRD!
All the posts on here from people who have lost their pets... and always posts made by others about the rainbow bridge. I could possibly understand if you were talking to toddlers about a lost pet. But otherwise...it baffles me. Really baffles me. If I'd just lost my pet I wouldn't want anyone talking to me like I was suddenly a nutcase.
Lol . . . . just reading this and find it hilarious - who put you in a position to judge - let people be and let them grieve in their own way . . . . you've obviously been reading it haven't you?????
Bless your cotton sox x0
