March 2012 Grocery Challenge

Just popped to Mr T's for the first time in ages for a mini shop and to pick up some tulips for Mum. Managed to spend a total of £17 including the flowers (£5) so not too bad.
I'll hopefully be able to manage for next week as I'm away for the weekend at Mum's and then there's only 5 days to cobble together some meals for just me and the dog.
There's only one shop of the month left for me if I can make it to the end of the week and around £38 left of my reduced budget so I'll hopefully make it ok although the freezer does need replenishing a bit, there's not a lot of veggie stuff left (quorn etc) but lots of waffles, chips, veg etc.0 -
Hi I've managed to get reduced price chicken thighs and I also have some bacon so I was thinking of making a chicken casserole for Sunday dinner using these ingredients but it needs to be quite 'plain' as we have my MIL coming round - does anyone have any ideas? Am all spent out until the beginning of April. Went to L*dl with DD4 yesterday, and spent everything in my special grocery purse, plus just over another £7!
Will be OK, as have plenty of stores to last - and am going away to stay at friends' for a week. I don't feel too bad about going over the limit, as I'd set myself a pretty stiff target in the first place.
I'm sure the rest of you are being exemplary in your spending!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Updated sig with a £60 ald* spend. Afair bit of this was on treats and snacks for the kids as we've not shopped for ages! I've just realised though, that £6 of it was on mothers day presents, and I wouldn't normally include that. As I'm under, so far this month though, they can stay;).
My plan is to not shop again on this months budget. DH gets paid and the new month starts on the 25th, so only just over a week.
I hope everyone's ok this evening xfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Hey Peeps,
It's officially the weekend!:j
Small spend today on a naughty burger from maccie d's, but hanging on for 1 more week until payday on the 23rd.
Managed to carry home the last of the fabric conditioner haul from under my desk at work, so now have about 9 bottles in my little stockpile area in the cupboard under the stairs:rotfl:
DH and I have finally decided to try and lose some weight together! - we both seem to have piled it on a bit since the wedding last year:o So tomorrow is going to be meal planning done together and eating lots more fresh stuff. This is good as it will hopefully tie in with my plan to shop once a week next month instead of swinging between loads of tiny shopping trips and one massive shop!
Just hope that switching to shopping once a week, (and avoiding a massive 'pay day shop' which blows the budget) ends up cheaper, despite the 4/5 delivery charges instead of petrol for 1 trip in the car......fingers crossed!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for the heads up. Can they put it up after they've already sent out the bill for it? Won't risk it now you've warned me but I'd be pretty  if they did. Was planning to wait until payday (next friday) to make sure there's enough money to pay by debit card. I guess I'll know by Wednesday if I've got enough to last another 2 days!
We've yet to be able to pay by debit card as it won't accept it, so have to pay by credit card at an extra cost of £2.50 :mad::mad:Anyone else had the same? When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. I pay in cash for car tax, as I know how much it will be.

Our nearest PO that does the car tax is a right pain to get to so we do it online. It's maddening mind, as my OH bought my DS's replacement driving licence on line and was able to pay for it by using his debit card, but only accepts a credit card for the tax :mad:When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. my dd has recently left home and my shopping bill has literally crashed - to be fair i used to stock up on junk for her as she like picking throughout the day. Ive worked out that this week i spent £20 in Lidl and about £15 in various shops on bits & bobs. I'm going to challenge myself to spend £40 per week. I have a freezer full of food so i'm going to use that up.
This £40 includes my packed lunches for work - i have half a tin of condensed soup per day and a sandwich made out of two slices of bread with either ham & pickle or cheese & pickle. I've done this for a couple of months now - occasionally i'll have a bag of quavers as a treat but that's about it - oh through the day i'll have an apple banana & satsuma.
good luck everyone!!0
