I've had Iphones, the call quality is rubbish compared to other mobiles. I have a Blackberry now which i hate but at least i can hear people ! The sound quality is much better.

Sweeping statement which isn't really reflective - I've had Apple's HTC's, Nokia's, Samsungs and Blackberry's - all very similar,t he only ones Ive had which were 'tinny' we're faulty...

For one, we're discussing iPhones, not Blackberrys. She's not interested in a Blackberry & i don't blame her.

For two, i have the exact same phone as her myself, yet i've had mine for about 2 years or so now & my sound quality is perfectly fine, as is my gf's phone - which is again, the exact same (3GS 16GB).

My OH's mate was complaining bitterly about the call quality of his new iPhone 4, it was incredibly funny when I took the phone from him, removed the thin plastic cover from the front of it which covered the speaker and handed it back ;)

I know of 2 friends in addition to myself, who have had problems with this on their Iphones. Just stating facts, and my experience of the sound quality on my Iphone 3GS 16gb compared to the Blackberry i have now. Ok ?

    I don't dispute it.

The point i was trying to make, which i think seems to have been missed, is like with anything in life, you're going to find positive & negative feedback.

Can you actually believe that there's a following out there for the Vauxhall Nova? I certainly can't, but it proves my point.

I've a good experience, the next man will have a bad one and so on.

The case in hand is an issue with a seller & getting it sorted though ... not a phone review discussion.

Amazon seller has been contacted. My sister says she'll be happy with either a refund or replacement. So we'll see what the chap says.

As for iPhone 4 ..... 2 words as to why she never got one ..... signal drop.
(& before anyone tries telling me it's a myth, i've tested it & seen it with my own 2 eyes, which is why i never bought an iPhone 4 myself. We're not discussing iPhone 4's).

I've had friends mention signal drop with 4's but its not something I have experienced, that said the 4 had been out for about 6 months when I bought mine so it was probably resolved by then.
As for Nova's, loved our 1.3 and 1.4 SR's we had back in the day :D

Hopefully the seller will play ball, a refund would be better for her as she can then source a 3GS for much less and have some cash to buy herself a decent case with the change.

Good luck either way, and please let us know how it pans out :o

    Thanks a lot.

I went into an o2 store & tested out the iPhone 4 signal drop - & it did slowly drop its signal. Apparently they mostly sorted this with the iPhone 4S, but not totally.
I've tried the same test on the iPhone 4S & there was no signal drop at all. But then, i'm hanging out for either an iPhone 5 or a Samsung Galaxy S3 myself.

I tried to hint to her that she should be looking at a refund, but then she surprised me by saying refund or exchange. I think she's bothered about being phone-less. It doesn't help that she's not in work as she's in college ... so getting £30 a week i think it is.

I know you can get 3GSs cheaper, but she wanted a brand spanker that hadn't been abused.

Anyway, hopefully the seller responds positively.

How long should she wait on the sellers response?

Did you watched the 'Antennagate' Keynote? ALL phones experience signal drop, so no, it is not totally 'sorted' on the 4S, but it is as 'sorted' as any other phone on the market.

And the reason for the signal drop was the positioning of the gap in the aluminium strip around the phone. Now this is repositioned, there is not a problem at all.

Aside from that, I have not yet dropped a call on my iPhone 4, or 4S. IMO, it was an overhyped media frenzy, and yes, signal drop could be manufactured and made to happen, but it wasn't a real everyday problem. In fact, the return rate of the iPhone 4 was less than that of the 3GS...

But that's all beside the point.

I hope you get your refund! But your sister does right to look for a refund and buy a 4/4S instead (as per the above information).

    That's why i said it wasn't.

    I know.

Before i buy something expensive, i research it, a lot. Just ask the pension forum guys :rotfl:

I hope she gets a refund too. The 3GS is dated now & is so slow with 5.0.1 on. But as she's given the seller an angle to exchange, they'll likely take it. I can't see them wanting to readily give up £350 just like that.

So the seller responded today, quite positively.

They said return for an exchange (thought so). Provided their address.

What's the Amazon procedure here? Just simply return via Special Delivery, or do you need to go through some sort of Amazon route to specify on the account that the item has been returned?

Also, with the second one that will be sent out, how long do you have to return that one (IF that one is also faulty)? Is it 90 days from when that was received, or is it still 90 days from when the original was sent?

Finally, As she tried a restore of the iPhone to see if it'd fix it, and it was jailbroken when sent out .... would she need to re-jailbreak it to return it, or is it ok sending it back in a restored state - even though it was sent out jailbroken?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Not to worry - the last collect is 5:15pm so had to send it off to make it in time. Here's hoping it goes smoothly.
